This thread is astounishing in the sense that people take themselves way to serious.

 

IMHO people asking for a jail sentence or a ban from entry into Thailand for what by reasonable people can only be descriped as a harmless schoolboy prank have completely lost the plot. Seriously off base.

 

Time for the Thai to grow a sense of humour and stop being so bloody self centered. The idiots are not the two butt showers but the people screaming bloody murder.

 

If Thailand decides to jail these people,I will vote with my feet, and I hope many more will follow, why spend money in a country where the powers that be are so self centered that they cannot even take a joke.

The more serious charges about uploading porn (I don't consider those butt shots porn) and the religious crimes each carrying multiple years in prison, I think like most reasonable people that such punishments are way over the top severe for the offense. On the religious offense, it may be objectively true, but motive/intention should be considered. It's obvious they didn't do it to disrespect any religion. They did it for their instagram theme pics. It could have been the religion of Walt Disney world that they were doing their butt shots in front of for all they were thinking about!

I guess in an ideal world they would have been confronted when they did it and given a stern lecture about offending the local culture and never to do it again. But the the fine is OK and punishment is justified.

I want to add a curiosity about the press coverage of this story. Of course most of it has been "tongue in cheek" the fact that serious charges are being considered carrying over TEN YEARS in prison has generally being covered as well (when that information was known, which of course it wasn't on the earlier news items).

But the oddest example of coverage I found was in the Bangkok Post where rather just reporting the objective hard real news fact that they are a married couple, they were described as "buddies." Imagine if they were so shy about describing the relationship of an opposite sex couple. You can't imagine it. It would never happen.

My assumption is the delay means they probably are working now on developing the cases to formally charge on the two very serious charges and they probably will pursue those charges.

I realize many are assuming that they will definitely be able to avoid such charges (wink wink nod nod say no more), but I don't understand how anyone can be so sure about that especially considering this case touches on national face and insults to Buddhism. 

If that happens, you can pat yourselves on the back for correct predictions. Big whoop.
