webfact Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Cosi opens its first hotel on Koh Samui By The Nation The new Cosi Hotel on Samui island – the first under that brand – is now officially open and welcoming what its owners, Centara, call “independent, tech-savvy travellers”. “It is as different from a traditional hotel as a new smartphone is from the mobile phones of the 1990s,” a Centara media release says. “Centara completely re-thought what a hotel should be for the new generation of connected, freedom loving, pricey-frill-hating travellers. The result is an innovative and affordable lifestyle hub set in the middle of the shopping, eating, social and entertainment scene on Chaweng Beach. If it feels a little more like staying at the stylish home of a friend, that’s the whole idea.” Harry Thaliwal, Centara’s general manager and corporate director of operations for the Cosi brand, said: “Cosi represents a lot of new thinking about what a modern hotel can be, based on what’s important and what’s not so relevant for today’s, youthful-minded, smart travellers. “You can create a very fresh and unique place if you’re willing to throw out the usual conventions.” For starters, there is no lobby counter or check-in queues. Guests can check themselves in and out at digital self-service stations. Check-in can alos be one on your smartphone, which can also be used to book rooms, play videos or link to the room’s 43-inch SmartTV screen, which can mirror your phone screen. Fast and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. The hotel’s hub is a 24/7 social and media “playspace”, where guests can watch a game on television, eat and drink, and catch up with friends. In addition to the hi-tech TV, Cosi’s 150 rooms feature comfortable king or twin beds, powerful showers, digital safes and fridges. Each room has five USB ports so guests can recharge their devices without worrying about converters. Cosi Samui also features an 18-metre rooftop pool and all-hours laundromat The hotel is also well located. Central Festival, the island’s main shopping centre, is up the street, and Samui’s airport is only 15 minutes away. “Today’s young travellers want freedom, connections and shared experiences,” said Thirayuth Chirativat, Centara’s chief executive officer. “They are interested in a simple, smart, fun lifestyle, rather than traditional or superfluous amenities. We designed Cosi for them. We expect this will be the first of many.” Details: cosihotels.com or phone 077 430 123-4. Samui Bodoh Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 This "news" is complete and utter trash. It is an advertisement masquerading as news and it is insulting to the intelligence of all who read it. C'mon Nation, have some self-respect.

The Bangkok Post charge $3,500 for a piece like this, i wonder how much The Nation charged Centara for this....
arithai12 Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 actually, it's good to know about this. Now, if I ever go to Samui, I know where I don't want to stay.
geriatrickid Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Well, I am glad I read the article. Took me all of 15 seconds to speed read it. I learned that; - Centara has a low cost unit just like Accor and Hilton, It was news to me. - There is an affordable option on Koh Samui that won't be full of boring folks moaning about their varicose veins, constipation and ill fitting dentures. - The new brand is similar to Citizen Hotels. I use the Citizen at AMS airport, so this article just gave me a travel idea.
observer90210 Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Thank you for the article, as I was not aware of a nice, self-check-in comfortable, brand new, well located, low cost hotel in Samui. This is good information and I don't understand all the nitpicking on the choice of topic ?
brain150 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 You might want to "google" the term: Technocracy It's coming and it's coming fast. Nothing at all good about it. Might be interesting to see what all the hotel staff thinks about it: NO staff needed anymore :-) ... makes it cheap to operate.

If I look at what Citizen did at AMS, it has put the personnel at the checkin kiosks to help. Instead of the lining up and waiting 5-15 minutes and then more time wasted on providing the same information as when I made the reservation under my Club Accor account as I must do at the BKK Airport Novotel, I am done in minutes at Citizen AMS. I get a room that is more appropriately priced then at the Novotel. However, more importantly, the enhanced technical approach addresses the issue of staffing and of errors and delays common to the old checkin process. In case you missed it, the hotels who have gone to kiosks are in regions where there is a labour shortage. The hotels can't find decent staff. Samui hotels have a hard time finding staff and there is turnover. I don't think there will be staff complaining, especially if they can avoid working the graveyard shift.
