Bangkokians promised cool weather starting Sunday

By The Nation

Bangkokians might get a chance to wear a jacket for a change starting on Sunday. The weather forecast agency chief on Friday promised Bangkokians, who have been envying those chilling out in the North for a month, that they will get their share of cool weather on Sunday.

Wanchai Sakudomchai, director general of the Meteorological Department, said a new round of cool weather for Bangkok would remain until December 22.

From Sunday to December 22, the morning temperature could drop to 18 or 19 degrees Celsius.

The weather will briefly warm after December 22 before again dropping prior to the New Year holidays, Wanchai added.

He said the mercury will drop because a cold weather mass moved down to central China on Friday and will reach the central, northern and northeastern regions of Thailand on Saturday and Bangkok on Sunday.

He said the rains experienced in Bangkok on Thursday and Friday were caused by the warmer weather and accompanying wind blowing humidity inland.

There could be more rain on Saturday and Sunday before the temperature drop, he added.

A drop of temperature by 14 or 15 degrees to the Thais the same as a 15 degree drop in England or maybe your country.

So next week we see:

- Eskimos invading Bangkok ?

- News articles about Thai frozen to death ?

I cannot wait. The weather has been unbearably hot, for this time of year. It is ridiculous. I feel like I am living on the edge of the Sahara desert. Please, please bring some relief from this oppressive heat, please.

Lived in Thailand more than any other country in my life. This is my country 555 for now. The drop in temperature is bullshit. They like to wear different clothes and a small change in weather gives them that excuse

Just checked TWC online. Shows low temps of 15-16 C in BKK next week. If accurate, will challenge the coldest temp I ever remember here (BKK). 59 F...about 15 C in Nov 2000.PSX_20171216_133753.jpg.f3b5ffa9fb2e366d03175bb54efa593f.jpg

You must be a Thai national then if this is your country.

Yep hot since May 14th 2014 I think. Talking snow Mike you know that white stuff well Thai wife two days last week she was outside on her own building snowmen and ice sculptures for her facebook she loves it and good at it, so sad the snow has gone she said. You only need a jacket and gloves to keep real warm she says. Bit of snow and a bit of rain feels great and Christmas all rolled into one, so nice.

Sorry I got carried away, Now what where you saying about the heat Mike?

It is a cold spell that happens once in 2 years. Last year temperatures never dropped below 20 degrees in Bangkok, but this year they are dropping well below 20.

2014 winter was a bad one for Thailand with temperatures dropping below 20 frequently in Bangkok, many provinces were called disaster zones.  I don't think 2017/18 winter will beat the 2013/14 winter.

I might be wrong though :)

I am not sure if these models take into account the warm waters from the Gulf Bay that might add 1 or 3 degrees during the night. I've seen the forecasts getting wrong consistently the night lowest temperatures. Bangkok always shows warmer temperatures. The logic is, the further North you move from the Gulf to inland the cooler it gets, but Bangkok is way too close to the Gulf, so the error in the forecast can be likely.

Agreed, which is exactly the reason my post included...'if accurate'. However, it did get down to 16 yesterday and day before in my area of BKK. Sadly however, did not break my personal record of 15 C.
