The governor of the north eastern Thailand province of Loei has received praise for leaving the car at home and cycling to and from work.

Local man Chaiwat Cheunkosum was pictured on his bicycle with a basket in the evening traffic yesterday.

But he played down his cycling saying it was nothing and something that many ordinary people in Loei do every day.

He used the press opportunity to say there were lots of cycling lanes in the provincial capital making it a safe, bicycle friendly city.

Besides, he said that the weather this time of the year was great cool cycling weather. Cycling was also an economical way to get about and helped reduce traffic in town.

He encouraged many others to try it.

Sanook praised the governor in their headline.

Millions do the same in the Netherlands, every day, the whole year.

But it would be a very good idea!

Good photo op though bizarre there was someone there to randomly take a picture of him - does he do it every day?

distance , time? However nice action, but he better be careful otherwise he is run down.

He should be wearing a cycling helmet for safety.
