Flight Sims- XPlane- Thrustmaster and other interesting subjects.

Just wondering if there are any other sad individuals on here that like to dabble in Sims like FSX or XPlane?

I am trying to find out a couple of things regarding the TARGET Software provided by Thrustmaster for their joysticks.

I often use XPlane in conjunction with the Thrustmaster 1600FCS joystick and have been recently been trying to use the TARGET software to create and modify the joystick profiles. (Let's just say lots of headaches in the latest release of XPlane regarding certain switches not working, calibration issues...oh the list goes on...)

What I was hoping to find out was when using an external piece of software like TARGET, how do I ensure that the profile is loaded correctly or is the profile even loaded at all?

The way I see things is that in order to get everything working correctly, I should run a sort of Neutral profile in TARGET, no adjustments to axes etc. then start up XPlane and calibrate the joystick as it is using the Xplane software.

Once I have the joystick calibrated I should then go back to the TARGET software and create my profile, axis curves and responses etc.

The problem I have, or the uncertainty I have is that frequently the new Xplane 11 software keeps telling me that my joystick isn't calibrated and I need to re run the calibration process within Xplane.

This is where I would appreciate some assistance -

When Xplane re runs its own internal calibration of the joystick, does it then overwrite any profiles created in TARGET? - i.e. if I have set up a load of curves and null zones in TARGET, will recalibrating in Xplane simply disregard these settings and create an new linear profile that negates everything that is setup in the TARGET profile?

And, if anyone knows how to fix the HAT switch not working nowadays in Xplane, please let me know as I no longer have any hair left on my head to pull out - Sad really, a grown man flying make believe aircraft.....such is life.

I have to knowledge of the devise you use or the software. But I have a general comment:

What calibration normally does is to calibrate the center point and the end points of the joystick. And I am pretty sure you should do the calibration after you create your profile.

Let's say normally your joystick max would be 90 (just a number, it could be 900 or 30,000) when you put the stick to the right. When you calibrate your simulator it will learn that 90 is the maximum possible value and it will never expect anything more than 90. In fact it will interpret anything over 90 as an error because it's more than the max.

If you do your calibration first then then you set a curve in your profile and this curve ends up with a maximum of 100 then your simulator will have a problem because anything >90 is maybe interpreted as an error.

That's just the general idea about calibration, maybe it helps.

In the old days I was a flight sim fan ,since the early 90's with Microsoft flight sim . I was impressed back then , and still is .

I do have FSX but no time to fly these days. My flight stick is Attack 3 by Logitech.

In the old days I owned a real yoke and pedals from CH products. I regret I sold them .

There is a few of us in Thailand. I reckon I've spent 10k $ in software and hardware the last 8 years. I love it and flying the pmdg 777 on vatsim keeps busy for hours everyday other wise I would go nuts trying to fill in the day

For a joystick I use Microsoft force feed back stick coupled with FS Force software. Brilliant immersion
