Manager reported on a "mystical bell" at a police station in the southern province of Nakorn Sri Thammarat.

According to the cops if the bell is ever rung a disaster will occur.

No one at the Tha Sala station has dared ring it in ten years - and just to make sure no one else does they have wrapped a cloth around the inside.

The bell was part of the original station during the time of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, Rama V, in 1908. The first station chief was a man called Yokian Khongthon.

When the station moved to the Tha Sala - Si Chon Road in 1988 the bell came too.

But the cops said it is magical and no one dares ring it as there is bound to be trouble if you do.

I think they're confusing correlation with causation.

Yes, when the bell rings, disasters do happen.  But that's like saying that pulling the fire alarm causes fires.  Or that sounding the air raid siren attracts the bombers.
