webfact
Call to help dogs left out in the cold in Buriram By The Nation A dog lovers’ group in the northeastern province of Buri Ram has called for the authorities to help about 100 abandoned dogs after five of them reportedly died due to the cold weather. Wanchai Boonsatapanapong, a representative of the group, said increasing numbers of dogs had been abandoned at an empty place in Muang district over the past two years. There are now almost 100 dogs, including puppies, he said. People who felt sorry for the dogs regularly visited to give them food but this became more difficult as the number of animals increased. They formed a group to take care of the dogs, including paying for sterilisation from their own pockets. They also made simple shelters for them, Wanchai said. When the dogs were sick, the group would take them to vets who sometimes provided free treatment. “Now the weather is becoming so cold, some of the dogs – mostly puppies – died because they could not tolerate the weather. We would like the authorities to provide help for the animals and we call on people to stop abandoning their dogs,” he said. BuaBS
I like dogs , but isn't it better that they die young from the cold than having a miserable life as a dog no-one wants , or worse that gets caught put in cages and murdered for meat ? HappyinNE
Yep this is bull. I have had dogs in minus 40 degrees (Don't believe me--try Great Falls, Montana.). They loved it when there was snow to sleep in but not so much without snow.
fakename
Hey, there was a Norwegian man that just froze to death, and almost all of north Thailand is a sea of death. Dogs cant stand anything under 30 degrees!

Thaitoknow
Obviously they dont know what fur does. "People who felt sorry for the dogs regularly visited to give them food but this became more difficult as the number of animals increased". Problem all round Thailand. People feeding dogs but not actually taking care of them. If you dont nuter them but just give them enough food to multiply then the problem escalates. Spock
I like dogs and feel sorry for animals dumped by humans and left to fend for themselves. The people who seek to help them by providing food, shelter and paying vet bills are not deserving of the criticism leveled at them here. Compassion to animals in a society that can so easily dispose of a canine friend is a quality that deserves respect. Neutering is the obvious long term solution but is not the responsibility of the do gooders. Wishing dogs death by cold is also not the most moral approach to a man made problem. Agree with most of what you said but inspite of what people think Thailand does offer free nutering and organisations travel round offering them but people are too lazy to take them. If the people as you say are paying for vets bills and providing food and shelter the why not pay to nuter? Lastly dogs are not dying of the cold. Its not cold!....and they have fur! Dumbastheycome
This is a new industry in Thailand. It attracts money from well intentioned individuals ( including International via internet appeals ) and Government departments that nicely lines the pockets of a few who demonstrate bogus concern by handing out cheap dog food that mostly becomes colourful compost! Any dog that has died in the last few weeks is much more likely to have succumbed to disease or worm infestation than the cold weather ! If people have any real compassion then they would be better to personally fund the sterilization or even the euthenization of an unfortunate sick stray dog than assist miserable perpetuation of that animal or its potential offspring ! If Thai Authorities were to introduce compulsory dog registration, and paid Dog Control Officers who were empowered to remove stray animals the cost of many failed rabies vaccine programs plus the subsidized cost of rabies vaccines to dog bite victims would rapidly result in greatly reduced animal suffering, costs and a much more responsible (?) social attitude to dogs in general. Then possibly there cold be some attention given to the sad plight of the abandoned elderly suffering dementia or other related problems who are locked up in conditions worse than any stray dog endures simply because there are few if any affordable care facilities ! Stargeezr
I think that the Philippines would take unwanted dogs from Thailand, especially it they are pups or are healthy. Geezer
