So turn in your freekin' passport and leave. eh?

Instead of coming up with some positive ideas on how to make your situation and America's better, all you want to do is rant on how bad 'things' are.

Jeeeeze... :D

This isn't politics Boon, there is nothing to change. It's how people behave and the values we have. How I am suppose to change the way someone dresses? How am I supposed to tell someone that what they are doing to rude and not expect to have to deal with some sort of backlash. Perhaps in your vast rightwing knowledge you have suggestions on how to approach these issues, since you seem to think they can be changed......JEEZE!! :o

stop breast feeding at the table........

this is the most interesting part of your post for me at the moment. Why does a women breast feeding in a restaurant offend your wife so much that she is "wiped out" when she comes home. Maybe she should leave women who are just trying to feed their child alone & get on with her job. And so what if someone trys to steal a table vase I hardly think it is cause for so such venom IMO.

Also I normally like your posts bops but your post just shows you have the same intolerances & capable of the same ignorance as the people you are critising :o

Just read back at the way your have described your fellow human beings.

In America we have a debate going about breast feeding. There are people who think that it should not be done in public and others who see no issues with public breast feeding. Now, I myself feel that it shouldn't be done in public. Companies make bottles and holders so that people can store breast milk and than feed through the bottle.

Okay, breast feeding is not allowed in restaurants. If a women goes into a corporate ownd restaurant and tries to breast feed she will be told to stop. So, these women who know better think that because the restaurant my wife works at is not a large corporate owned restautant, and therefore needs the money, won't say anything about them breast feeding. Well, you should know enough about Thai culture to know that all the Thais there are horrified and while they want to tell these people to stop they think this is normal for Americans and don't want to be rude themselves.

You ask why my wife feels exhausted, well this is just one more thing she has to do in the day for she is the one to talk to poeple. Her english is the best and because she is married to an American they feel she knows how to deal with them. Now, most of the time it's not the other Thais that are making her tell these women to put their breasts back in their shirts while at the dinner table, it's the otehr dinners. They are the ones that request that the staff of the restaurant speak to these people. Then of course the staff says my wife should handle it. Then the Thais are looked down upon by the dinners because they think that the Thais allowed this behavior and of course the person told to put their reproductive organs away get mad at the Thais for not allowing it.

So, I hope this makes more sense.

He's tired and jaded Boo .. having a bad day ... letting off a bit of steam.

We all have days like this and a good old moan can clear the air for a while ... I wouldn't take Bops gripes too seriously :DThanks, I am just pissed and while some of these issues to bother me I wouldn't handle them in a violent way or lose of mind over it. I just needed to blow some steam and I don't like doing that around my family. My wife thinks I am nuts and I know talking about these things just makes her miss Thailand.

Now, myself, I would take the beer and the spliff ... that clears my air ... in fact I often take preventative and prophylactic treatment of this ilk to stop situations like this occuring :D

As usual your logic is peccable.

Let me know when you fancy trying

thaibebop,

What would the Buddha's teachings have to say about all this?

chownah

Nothing, I just feel I am being a poor Buddhist, that's all.

I disagree with your self view on this. I think this is a real chance for you to learn something more about the Buddha's teachings....truly I do. Why not take a few moments and try to find out what his teaching would be on this?....I think its a great opportunity and its best to not squander good opportunities....I truly believe this.

Metta,

Chownah

It's already clear to me. H.H. The Dali Lama said something along the lines of we should be grateful of our enemies for they give us a chance to practice patience and compassion. I normally keep this in mind, yet the last few days have been hard to do so.

Good post Bops. However, every country displays what you wrote about to some degree (some more, some less) - it's called modern society. It's never been perfect, but it does seem to be getting worse!

Just do your own thing to the best of your ability and stay cool man, or a heart attack might beckon.

Thanks Suegha. :o

Another thing I can complain about is the lack of decent Asian entertainment here. I just want to download some music and get copies of a few well know movies, but there is nowhere to buy them except a few companies that want me to pay the cost of a new video game!! For a movie or for a CD, they are out of their minds.

TBB - I feel your pain, 100%

I've been in Thailand for 4 years now, and my perspective on US from a distance fills me with some of the same pent up feelings as you've expressed.

There is no perfect place to live, obviously. But for all her faults, i'll take LOS! Am I an American?,yes. What can I do to change the bad to good? I vote every year. As a Democrat living in Texas, my vote doesn't count for much, but I do it anyway.

Can I change the country? No. But I can raise my own child to be caring, intelligent, respectful, and compassionate. That is the mark I will leave on the world, and I want it to be a good one.

Now, who wants to fire up the Ganja? :o

(I really don't smoke at all, but I am a wanna be rastafarian...

i dont get it

You're lucky. :o

Thank you, thank you very much. I am glad someone out there get it. :D

Bebop, if you have been living in Thailand and now have to live in US I understand your frustration. And I feel real sorry for you.

I have visited Sweden two times the last 5 years and both times I wanted to go back home to Thailand after first week. I cannot even imagine to live there anymore.

The total lack of respect for anything. Older people, teachers, parents, other people, other cultures etc etc

And the racism! It is everywhere! And the gangraping! They are only 12-13 years old and do that!

If I don't need to go back there rest of my life I will be very happy!

Yes, it is a very good point, however, it begs a question.....How is it that some people can't handle modern society in their home countries but succeed in another country as an expat? This might suiggest that modern society is too board a term to use?

How about all the people who succeed in America as expats or immigrants?

Don't blame America. Blame GOD! :o

The great thing about living abroad is I don't listen to the news and I don't read the papers, ok sometimes I check up on current affairs, but it's my choice.

I'm not being constantly told what to think and what to do, in the UK constant bad news creates a state of apathy, of futility.

Without that negativity my self esteem rises, I'm much more perceptive to new ideas and possibilities.

If you think along the lines that you can't change the world, but you can change yourself, it's good to have somewhere where you can shut off the negativity and focus on the important things in life. Peace.

Life Under The Bush Debacle

Let’s see, last time I checked,

1The stock market is at an all-time high, thus

2) Retirement accounts are at last recovering.

3) Unemployment is at a 25-year low,

4) Taxes are at 20-year lows,

5) Federal revenues are at all-time highs,

6) The Federal deficit is down almost 50%,

7) Real estate values have soared,

8) Inflation is at a 20-year low,

9) There have been no successful attacks since 9/11,

10) Al Queda is being taken apart, one body at a time.

11) U.S. and British Intelligence have thwarted a number of attacks.

12) The terrorists are flocking to Iraq to be killed, instead of boarding planes for this country.

Yep… the country is falling apart. :o

I was speaking of all expats regardless of orgin. I can't blame God, I don't believe in him, yet another thing that makes life hard in the US.

Yes , that's one interesting thing about France.

It's officially a secular state.

The US is a 'in God we trust" locality.

Then they roam around the world killing

people because they know they're right.

They should have more in common with

the mad mullahs don't you think ?

Wish I hadn't said that , it's scary !

Well said. I think sometimes I am more prone to get upset over the flaws of Americans because they are my people and I want better for them and from them. When I see us throw away all we have knowing others have so much less I get sick. I get mad when we take our freedom too far and think freedom means treating other like sh1t. I get enraged when we allow government goons to divide us and make us think there is some imporant fight between us politically and then getting us to trust their platform instead of eachother. It's our government, it should be us watching them not them watching us. So, yeah, I think maybe being in someone else's country I won't care so much. In Thailand I can say this country belongs to the Thais, let them do whatever they want. America, let it do whatever I wash my hands.

I don't want to be responsible for my counrties and countrymens shortcomings.

You think I have not noticed this? The only thing that keeps American Christians from blowing themselves along with all the pagans around them is money. American Christians for all their hardcore talk about killing this and bring an Old Religion God back into the world is the fact they still have payments to make on their SUVs. They have too much lost right now. Take that away and see just how close to Binladen these people. They hate him because they have too much in common with them.

Stop being nasty to him.

That's out of the Boon family album. So ugly they wouldn't let him face the camera.

They used to feed him with a catapult 'cos he used to disrupt the conversation at the dinner table. :o
