Thai Rath have reported that two bars on Hat Rin beach in Koh Phangan, Surat Thani, have been ordered shut using Article 44 powers.

They are Reggae Bar and Bello Bar. This followed New Year raids when the bars were found to be selling ganja, magic mushrooms and nitrous oxide or laughing gas.

This morning (Tuesday) the provincial governor Witchawut Jinto and regional police chief Kriangkrai Srirak were on the island meeting with local police, soldiers, protection agencies and operators.

Kriangkrai noted that Bello Bar - where magic mushroom punch was openly on sale - was still operating.

Both bars would be shut using Article 44 but no timescales were reported by Thai Rath in their article.

Why using article 44 and just use the law?

You will need a court order, that will take some years.

No big issue for the bars and no such a problem for such venues,  that some chunky brown enveloppes will not solve immediately. Next please.

They have been paying of the police for ages, this is a military crackdown.

Only bars shut down???

... I assumed, the penalty for drug distribution and dealing is 3-5 years in prison?

Not if you pay the money.. and know someone high up.  You are free from all laws and can do as you please.

I know

However, I don't understand, how they can make it so obvious, what's really going on in this <deleted> island, ...and nobody questioning that.

What is good is if military stay in charge for longer time, as I am sure it will happen, they will become the new cops and accept exactly the same brown enveloppes !

Some people have already reported that they like cash just like cops, no difference soon.

Snap out of it!

Did Thaksin use the law to shoot 2000 yaba dealers. Do Brazil cops not shoot drug dealers without an arrest

Did the PI leader not execute 6000 dealers and junkies?

Are you to soft to live in Asia?

Be Grateful there is no political correctness BS here and the scum are dealt with.

In comparison to the above shutting down a drug den is not a big deal.. Nobody got killed so good work to the bib /army boys

Actually it can carries a death sentence (usually reduced to life for a guilty plee) , if you happen to not be a wealthy bar owner
