BANGKOK, 11th Jan 2018 (NNT) – The head of the Zoological Park Organization (ZPO) says that the process of transferring animals out of Dusit Zoo is still in the study phase and that the rationale for the new facility is modernity.

Director of the ZPO, Benjapol Nakprasert recently led a second meeting on the transfer of Dusit Zoo, which followed an inspection tour of the plot to be used as the new site for the zoo in Thanyaburi district of Pathumthani province. Benjapol told the meeting that the new 300 rai area is well suited to the project with no residences nearby. The next meeting of the construction committee has been scheduled for February 13.

A meeting of zoo designers is to take place on January 30, while the completed design for the park is expected in 1-2 years. Benjapol said the aim of the zoo is to match the most modern such facilities abroad, ensuring its longevity.

The committee tasked with transferring animals to the new zoo has finished cataloging Dusit Zoo’s populations and has paired up different animals to be moved to six different facilities while the transfer is taking place. Some will go to parks in need of particular species.

Authorities have assured the public that Dusit Zoo will be open this National Children’s Day with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment using it to host activities. Children will be able to enter the zoo free on January 13.

Has there been any information as to the actual location of the new site?

I've guessed it's one of the royal plots in this area 14.044972, 100.725507 but there's hardly "no residences nearby", perhaps that really means " there are no residences of anyone important nearby".

We shall see if it ever happens.
