A public-bus operator has denied social-media posts suggesting that one of its bus drivers abandoned two elderly passengers during a journey.

“No, we have not abandoned our passengers,” Chanachai Transport ticket seller Lelux Ain-areekul said yesterday.

She was responding to questions about photos that showed an old man running after a bus.

Those photos appeared in social media along with a story. The poster said he was waiting for a bus at a terminal in Maha Sarakham province when he noticed the old man telling the driver to wait a little while for his friend. According to the old man, his friend was still in a toilet.

But after some time, the driver got into the bus and sped away with the old man trying to run after the bus. As the bus did not stop, the old man and his friend complained that their bags were still on the bus.

They said they hoped that the bus would return and pick them up but the operator could not help.

When asked about the story, Lelux said her firm immediately called the driver after the two elderly passengers came forward.

“But by that time, the bus was already quite far from the terminal. We advised the passengers to wait for the next bus. They did not have to pay anything more. We also made sure their bags were waiting for them at the next station,” Lelux said.

She also said the bus carried many passengers and normally would stop at each terminal for just about 10 minutes.

“But perhaps, the incident occurred because of miscommunication between the passenger and the driver,” Lelux said.

so they did abandon the 2 passengers

I have been on middle of the night Issan food stops during bus trips and almost got left behind a few times...you cannot dawdle even a minute.

In Europe, no bus driver waits longer. They leaves punctually at the departure time.
