No idea what it has to do with young people, must go into Bangkok  to the Hospital at least 4x a year,  stopped driving in and now use Purple Line and Metro, appear to me that any age group are glued to the smart phones/i-pads

...i hope the train drivers leave there's in their locker.

I don't think it is "peeping tom" when people get paid for other people watching them.

Brunolem you have pushed me over the edge.

Don't forget to mention "naked"...people get paid for other people watching them... naked!

Which is not the same as people get paid for other people watching them, say, eating or texting...

Having said that, I don't think that watching strangers naked while hiding behind a screen can be compared with visiting go-go bars.

First, go-go bars don't have 150 million customers, unfortunately for them...

Then, a large number of customers come with friends and spend at least as much time talking the talk and drinking, than staring at dancers...many actually pay little attention to their surroundings...

Finally, these people do this openly, not hiding it in the confines of their bedrooms, while their mother is cooking dinner.

Now, if I can "push you over the edge" with a few words, such as "appalling", it means that you probably live too close to the edge, and maybe you should look for a safer place.

If technology is so wonderful, why is the world in such a mess?

Thanks to technology, we can cut down tropical forests much faster, we can create giant floatsam islands in the middle of the oceans, we can totally deplete the soils while poisoning the waters and the atmosphere, we can kill 12 million and injure countless more in traffic accidents every year, we can drop remote controlled missiles on wedding parties thousands of kilometers away, we can destroy millions of jobs and have 40 to 50% unemployment rates among the youth, we can create "fake" money and use it to manipulate financial markets, inflating massive bubbles in the process, we can finance all this orgy of "progress" by building mountains of debt that we will let our children and grandchildren to deal with!

As if that was not enough, our new ways of communicating are indeed rewiring our brains, unfortunately not for the better (see The Shallows by Nicholas Carr).

For example, dispensing with spelling and grammar is sending us back to the ages, centuries ago, where such things barely existed.

But of course, a few happy fellows can enjoy "progress" with their 500 usd Apple smartphone while sitting on a beach, and after all that is what really matters.

Thanks to technology and medical advances many older people are still living and in much better quality of life as before. I guess that should count for a forum like Thaivisa where the majority is older.

So it seems the objective is to be smarter than the AI robots!  It is a complicated relationship.

There is also the fact that many programmers are Aspergers, 'borderline autistic' etc.

Do we want to be just "smart" and "high performance" ?

No one is hiding.  They are out there for 200 million people to see.  You can talk to them while they are in the shower or whatever or you can join them by putting your screen on line with theirs.  You can phone them up while in the shower.  Sorry, you don't have a clue.  Before you post again talk to a Thai 18 to 25 year old and get some real information about what they are doing on line.  These are social networking sites not porn.  Today's kids are not as uptight as you.

I have over 1200 people I have known for between 1 year and over 40 years that I consider friends.   Most of them don't live in Thailand.   Calling them to would be impossible.  Aside from which I'd only be able to speak to them, not see the amazing meal they had last night, or the cool people and places they had been at since out last chat.

It's not the impersonal generation, it's the keep in touch with everyone you've ever considered a friend rather than losing touch with them when you or they move to another country.

You should have added a smiley face, as I thought you were being serious. Took me a while, but I got it in the end.

I can only guess, but I assume you will be signing up to have spotty youths working for facebonk observe your every waking moment in your house, including in your bedroom.

To those of us that actually still have a functioning brain, the fact that anyone is seriously presenting that as something people should actually want proves the world is truly going mad. The most evil thing I have ever heard in my lifetime, and I've heard a lot of very evil things.

Remember, everything that you want to inflict on all of us is controlled by chips with a hackable design feature that can't be fixed.

I for one want nothing to do with your brave new world of mind control by people that want power over me, and not for my benefit.

No doubt, evil scientists are even now working how to implant chips into our brains so we can call up our thousands of friends while in the shower.

LOL. Not long now and so many old(er) people will be still alive that they will completely monopolise the hospitals with all their many health problems, take a vast amount of state revenue to house, feed and clothe, and form a voting block that can oblige government to do whatever they want.

How long before young people rebel and start euthanizing them?

I remember when  everyone got televisions.  Anytime you went to visit friends, even at meal time,  the tele was on.  No conversation.  Everyone watched the TV.  Just as bad.  This sort of anti-social behaviour has been going on for years.

I was lucky enough to grow up before people had tvs. We all listened to the radio together, a family experience.

Back in the late 70s I decided to never watch tv again, and had a 2 year break. Unfortunately just when I thought I'd got out, it sucked me back in.

At the moment, living alone, tv keeps my mind off being alone, so there are situations when it's OK. I find that after I watched tv a few hours it's occupied my mind so much that I can't remember what I just watched for a few hours. :shock1:

However, when I'm in a rest home, if they park me in front of daytime tv all day, I'll sue them for torture.

And pretty soon there may be an app that includes Near Infrared (NIR) Flavor and Fragrance analyzer so you can not only see your friend's amazing meal but also taste and smell it -- or maybe there already is such an app and you-know-who has knowledge of it but isn't telling.

Good question.. seriously the problem with medical advances are that the younger generation is going to have to pay for the older generation to be healed. That is why healthcare cost will always rise and limits should be set.

Facebook is for old folks.  We started out in the shower and then switched to Line video chat and then she called me up on my smartphone.  No charge for the calls because no one pays for calls anymore.  She came over and tried some new Ethopia Harrar espresso I ordered on line and just received.  That's my brave new world.  Instant communication, food from everywhere in the world and nice ladies.  I like to have women I've never had.  Nothing much has changed.  It has gotten more efficient.

Nivea, the Germany-based body products company, has just announced a new product called “NOSE,” a mobile phone cover that works as an electronic nose when paired with a downloadable app.  In my home if you fart (even silently) my aircleaner turns on and cleans the air.  Has a 10 year guarantee.

You didn't answer the question about having a chip inserted into your brain.

I think we should just put everyone's brains into a supporting solution and connect them all so everyone can all talk to each other about <deleted> stuff all day and we could boast about our 8 billion friends.

Your electronic "nose" would allow us to fart in each other's faces.

Seriously, the fact that Nivea apparently think that's a worth while product to promote, as opposed to something of actual benefit to humanity and the planet makes me think the human race is doomed.

More likely failure to accept and work with the new tech that is the future will doom the human race.  Like burning coal and outdated nationalism.

See that's what I mean.  You ask a question about smart phone apps and I answer it out of the kindness in my heart and do you say Thanks?  No you insult me about flatulence.  And people will wonder why I'll not answer any questions about the new things that are making our life interesting and fun.  It's because of people like Crabby.

Jai yen, jai yen.

It was humerous. Learn to laugh at life and life gets better. Otherwise it's just insanity with a load of nasty people annoying us.

Likely scenario for doom of the human race- overpopulation, overfishing, overpopulation, pollution, overpopulation, plague, overpopulation, meteorite, overpopulation, poisoning of the soil, etc.

Given that population is occurring faster than any solution can be found it's not going to be great. However, if a phone app is invented that stops people wanting to procreate, that might be the first useful app ever invented.

That would doom the human race (prevent procreation).  I believe in China and Thailand and Japan and America they are trying to convince people to have more children because the population is getting too small.

I posted a reference that someone may someday be able to send to their friends a digital replica of the flavor and fragrance of an exceptional meal and you come on with something about farting in your home and you expect to be thanked for it?

I assume I am "you know who" so I answered your question and you insulted me and will not admit it.  Typical.
