Several years ago a fellow I met in the PI suggested the only possible solution to screen enhancement is something like a fold out screen.    ( accordion if you choose)  I suspect that is in the works or at least being investigated.

My last phone buy was an SE (128GB) as I don't wan't an oversized thing in my rear pocket.

I look forward to new developments.

Samsung are working on a foldable phone ( with a foldable screen ).

Microsoft's HoloLens is an augmented-reality headset. It's a self-contained Windows 10 computer that projects high-definition holograms onto real objects, walls and surfaces.

If it can make fat girls look like supermodels I want it.

In the demo, why are they using a guy that seems mildly retarded?

From childhood, that is until I finished high school...zero!

From later on in life, I would say a dozen...and honestly I could never manage close relationships with hundreds of people, nor would I want to.

Friends are nice, but there is also family, and then there is personal free time for sport, reading or whatever...

Days only have 24 hours...

Being introverted I find having more than three friends too stressful.

I do use my smartphone extensively though and never for facebook.

That's not introverted, that's normal. Nobody has time for more than 3 friends.

That is my occulus rift with hand controllers. But that is not me on the pic.. i really love my occulus don't use it as much as i should. They should find a way to remove the cable to the headdevice.. as you can trip over it.

The occulus rift is quite fun but you look retarded when you play it but things are so real its such a step up from other things. The only problem I have is that I wear glasses and that makes it a bit harder to put them on and switch (if i use my contacts its ok).

An other problem is that there is a cable attached to the device that you can trip over.. you move around so much that it can become confusing. But its great fun.

Text a friend- I prefer to talk to my friends

Set a reminder- that's what paper is for

Search contacts- that's what paper is for

Create a Google Calendar event-that's what paper is for

Create a memo-that's what paper is for

See your upcoming bills-that's what paper is for, also on internet using a real                                              computer

I don't consider TVF                                              a "social" network as we are mainly a bunch of                                                        unsocial old grumpies

Send a Hangouts chat message- why would I even want to?

Search the internet- I use a real computer for that

Check your voicemail- don't have any, don't want any. That's what answer phones are for ( on landlines )

Set alarm- said that already

Control Bluetooth- don't use it, don't want it

Hear the news- I have a radio

Watch a movie from Google Play- I have a tv and a DVD player

Learn about a TV show you're watching- google does that on my real                                                                                           computer, and when I'm watching a movie I'm not doing anything else

Answer trivia questions- google does that on my real computer

Read a book from Google Play- that's what books are for

Find a movie- google does that on my real computer

Search for images-google does that on my real computer

Take a photo or video- that's what I have a camera for

Get directions- you said that already

Find nearby places- google does that on my real computer

Plan your trip-google does that on my real computer

Look up travel plans-google does that on my real computer

Book a table-I don't go to any restaurant inhabited by people that think                                     booking is a good idea. A sort of reverse snobbery, if you like.

Find the time- I have a watch

Check the weather- you said that already

Answer trivia questions-you said that already

Calculate the tip- I give whatever I think is appropriate, or 10%, which I can                                      calculate in my head

Translate words or phrases- google on my real computer

Define a word- ditto

Convert between units- ditto

If you can't see why that is not a good idea, I suggest you think about it.

Hint, it's already bad enough with all the phone zombies not looking where they are going, and I'm not getting out of your way as you ignore the real world around you.

BTW expect people like me to laugh at you wearing a <deleted> helmet. The idiots with VR masks in malls are already a source of great amusement.

On top of that, if people really do all these (totally unproductive) tasks with their smartphones, how can they pretend to be more productive than non-users?

Do they even have any idea what being productive means?

Having said that, get ready for some serious bashing from the poster you quoted...just sayin'...

Possibly because one would have to be mildly retarded to use it.

Seems there are two sorts of people on this thread. The ones that think being a digital zombie is a good idea, and the rest of us that think it's stupid.

Remember how when we were young comics advertised those X ray glasses that showed girls naked bodies? I never bought one as pretty sure they didn't work.

Guess what? Probably coming to your local digital store sometime in the future, glasses able to be programmed with an "app" to show people naked! That's really going to upset the Metoo folk.

Already here, glasses that record everything one sees. What could possibly go wrong with that? Hint- perverts are lovin' them.

More really stupid ideas from the digital people:

drones to deliver packages. Your local terrorist is lovin' it.

suitcases that follow one around in airports. Your local terrorist is lovin' it

spywear too small to detect. Perverts are lovin' it ( and terrorists )

facebonk's latest idea to put cameras and audio recording devices in people's bedrooms- perverts are lovin' it. ( also blackmailers and terrorists ).

I'm sure there are more insane ideas out there, but that'll do for now.

Am I the only person on TVF that doesn't carry a phone when I'm out, likes to look at scenery when I travel, doesn't want to talk to mummy every 5 minutes, doesn't want to post what I'm having for dinner to 5,000 imaginary friends, can use a watch and a map, read paper books and actually writes on real paper?

Tell me it isn't so.

Seriously, does anyone have more than, say, 10 real friends in their lifetime?

I don't consider drinking buddies or co workers etc to be more than acquaintances. I'm talking about people that are there for one when life really turns to poo.

My mobile phone (not smart at all) stays most of the time turned off inside the house...just turn it on when I need to use it.

No Facebook and no Twitter accounts, just an email.

I have a tablet which I use mostly to read books I download, to read a few serious blogs, and to follow up what's going on in Thailand thanks to Thaivisa...the forum is an extra, to enjoy debating when some interesting thread comes up, such as this one.

Probably true, but the real question is are we better off that they did?

Serious question.

Most of us on here grew up without anything more advanced than Collossus, and lived successful lives without needing an app to show us where to go.

You sound like someone that uses the digital age for your own benefit, not for advertisers to use for their benefit, and businessmen to exploit.

Well done.

In 2002 he was named among the 100 Greatest Britons following a UK-wide poll for the BBC.

I didn't even know that they had 100 great Britons. But I digress. When I was still stateside and saw this blurb on TV I would say back to the TV: You're not exploring your world -- you're sitting in your ass watching television.

That may be true, but it's irrelevant to the topic.

He is using VR which is one step above a smart phone and the future of smart phones and he is not a zombie.  It is completely on topic.

Plus he has his own app with over 1,000 clips spanning his 60 year career
