Is there any property or property agent for those working on Samui who require accommodation for one year and more?e.g small house or apartment.

 

There's an agent on the hill going out of Nathon near 4 seasons.

 

I will also PM you an email address of someone who is a friend of my mate in the UK. He owns a property agency in Samui.

Looking for a property agent is like looking for a thai massage or 7/11 lol

Unless you are going for high-end luxury homes, found that  you can do better for  yourself. When dealing directly with the owner you can get some real savings for longer term. IMHO

I agree with "hoxman", you (OP) is better off coming and stay in a temporary place, and yourself find a suitable accommodation; there are plenty available, and many at affordable rates. If paying a year in advance, you can often squeeze the price further down – talk from positive experience – however first make sure you like the neighborhood, as you shall not expect a refund if you move out before time is up.

I agree it is probably better to be there....however I haven't got the time to make a special trip.

I do know Samui reasonable well from a geo/topograghical point of view, so if I can sort somewhere out before it would help.

I'm not even sure what my housing allowance would be yet. I guess I'm looking at 8 to 15 k.... my feeling is that there must be Thai people renting in or even below that?

Thais are renting from about 3,500 baht a month, but you may wish something a bit more comfortable.

 

Your best bet is to come, and just rent something temporary for a short while, whilst you find your long-term accommodation; the're plenty available at 15,000 baht a month and below.

 

It might however help getting advise, if you know which area of Koh Samui you are looking for to stay in.

Yes...I'm not sure of the area yet, but I'm prepared to commute.

One problem is I have a huge amount of "stuff" most of which I will sell, but if I live in a very small place, I'll have to put stuff in store as well...which I want to avoid. 

I will have the opportunity before moving to come down first and I agree that on the ground I'll get a better picture.

An alternative for me might be to live on the mainland and have digs on Samui for work days.

I recomend Maenam,Bhoput or Bangrak for long term stay.Pretty safe,eazygoing areas of Samui.

In Maenam,you can rent nice big house in the jungle.In Bhoput and Bangrak hundreds of

bungalows,appartments,rooms to rent by month.You just have to go around and ask,see

which area you like.

Thanks - nice big house in the hills/forest/ plantations would be perfect. I don't need to be in any paticular region or by the sea...... I have a vehicle for commuting....Im also fairly familiar with the roads through the hills...I'd love a place up there.

Consider Maenam.Close to anyware.Flat area,no hills (rainy season can get pretty tough).

Can find small house or, some people rent clusters of bungalows (with a coffe shop,laundry,etc).

Nature is abundant.Loads of farangs if you wanna socialise.

I wouldnt go to the hills because is gets quite isolated.

Anyway, I have Samui on my top three places to live your life.Enjoy.

I'll check out Maenam. I have stayed in a bungalow cluster...... and I agree, very convenient, but I really like isolation. And the least accessible would be a plus for me....The only proviso would good internet access.

I think I'll be making a trip down next month with a view to check out the lie of the land.
