A Khon Kaen man was arrested in Mukdahan for allegedly attempting to smuggle 10,000 methamphetamine pills and 89.06 grams of crystal meth from Nakhon Phanom to Mahasarakham.

Mukdahan governor Paitoon Rakprathet held a press conference on Wednesday morning to announce the arrest of Sathit Somthan, 23, a Khon Kaen resident.

Paitoon said Sathit was arrested on board a Mukdahan-Nakhon Ratchasima bus on Tuesday at a road checkpoint in Mukdahan’s Nikom Kham Soi district. He appeared restless when police inspected the bus, so they searched him and found the drugs hidden in his two bags.

They also found a .38 revolver and 25 rounds of ammunition.

The man admitted that he was paid Bt50,000 to take the drugs from a Laotian woman in Nakhon Phanom and deliver them to a recipient in Mahasakham. He had taken a bus from Nakhon Phanom to Mukdahan and then caught the Mukdahan-Nakhon Ratchasima bus heading to Mahasarakham, which is located between the two provinces.
