webfact
What you see is what you don't get...Thais book Koh Chang hotel but find it deserted! Picture: Daily News A Thai couple thought they were heading for an idyllic paradise break this week after booking a high class hotel online. However, when they arrived the place was overgrown and full of flies. There was not a staff member in sight or any other tourists. The posts of the story received a lot of comment after appearing on the Facebook page of Kukkik Toyou who said that she had not even received so much as an apology. Though now, thanks to the help of the tourist police, the couple have got their money back. Kukkik told Daily News Online that she originally booked the hotel in early December for the three days of the New Year period. It was the only one free and the pictures and reviews looked great. She paid a little over 4,000 baht by credit card. Unfortunately she fell ill nearer the time and had to cancel and was told that she could reschedule but it had to be within January. So she booked for 17-19th January, Wednesday to Friday this week. Picture: Daily News However, when she arrived on Wednesday her and her boyfriend just saw that the place was overgrown with weeds, the swimming pool was filthy and there were leaves and bits of old food all over. The place was full of flies and insects and bereft of staff and tourists. Locals helped her get the manager's phone number but his only comment was that the place was being refurbished. He thought they were coming in February for Chinese New Year. This was not what the couple were told over the phone in December, observed Kukkik. Though they got no apology, they soon got their money back thanks to the intervention of the Tourist Police, she said, saying that she hoped the story would be a warning to others. As is usually the case in such stories in Thailand, the hotel was not named by Daily News. Just add an all you can eat tag sea food buffet to the tag line for the hotel and leave it in the condition it is. Because it is not so easy in Thailand, we are not in USA where a phone call is enough to make a chargeback. And also because she couldn't show her dolly face in the news if she just cancelled her payment :-)

Only a refund is not enough.
TallGuyJohninBKK
It would appear the FB poster in this case is here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100006608596670 And her destination was here, according to her FB post: No mention on the resort's website that they're closed, undergoing renovation, or anything else. Not a peep... Edited January 19, 2018 by TallGuyJohninBKK
OJAS
Hmm, Fawlty Towers definitely looks like having 5 stars in comparison to this particular establishment!
Justfine
That's why you use booking.com or others that allow you to pay at the property and reviews will tell you if it's a dump. Edited January 25, 2018 by Justfine
