   I'm sure that my body would continue to acclimate for perhaps a year.  But the worst part was over in three weeks to a month and I was much more comfortable in the heat than previously.  

    I also found that by leaving the A/C off when in Thailand/Cambodia etc..... that my electric bill is much, much lower.

My interest is to be comfortable and I am OK to do whatever's necessary to accomplish that within the limits of the law.

 

I commend whoever likes to strive to acclimation but I've no interest in that endeavor.

 

I'm able to afford whatever the  energy bill is and for the foreseeable future I'l continue to have a  a temperature setting that provides me the comfort I want.

   Thank you for your kind words.   Best wishes to you.  Each to their own as they say.  My budget is more limited, and that is why I prefer southeast Asia over North America and Europe.  I would love to spend a lot of time in Europe....  but my retirement income is not high enough, and I do love the tropics now, the food, and the temples and people of southeast Asia.  

      But I may soon also spend some time in India and Sri Lanka. I want to visit the sacred places of Lord Buddha's life in Nepal and north east India,  and the temples of Sri Lanka also. 

    I have enough income for the Thai O-A long term visa, and to live in comfort in Thailand and Cambodia and India.... but not enough to spend much time in Europe.  Too poor for Europe.

Well if the intake to the aircon is outside yes.
But split systems in use around the world only recirculate the same air that's in the room.
If you have a small bedroom with tight fitting doors and windows, by morning you are breathing air that is heavily polluted with carbon dioxide and low on oxygen. Theoretically you could both be asphyxiated if the doors and winows remained shut.
In a large bedroom with non-airtight doors and windows, you are safer and less likely to wake up with a headache from breathing air with low oxygen levels. The temperature of the aircon air being cool on your face fools you into thinking it is like fresh air, but it's not.

Right now, we checked into a hotel this afternoon, she set the AC on 16C and high fan when I went out to buy something, came back she was under the covers, hoody sweatshirt and a knit cap on her head  -  you can't argue, I just raised the temp and lowered the fan, and told her not to touch it.  I am sure sometime in the middle of the night it will be like the Artic Circle again, and the dance will start all over.   

What seems to work for us (and we're kind of the opposite of the OP) is to set the temperature of the aircon at around 26 and I set a fan (floor standing Hatari) to blow directly on me only.  She doesn't get so cold and I am comfortable because any excess heat my body is creating is being whisked away immediately rather than waiting for radiation to trigger the aircon on again.

 

Of course she wouldn't be a woman without complaining that I'm wasting electricity running both whilst ignoring the massive savings of doing it my way rather than having the temperature set to where (Great Lakes region - the average annual high temperature is 13.7 and averages up to 28 in July) I grew up...

My last one only liked it during a heatwave, but otherwise hated it.  I do like the white noise of the hatari wall fan.

Well its what is called taking the piss folks however on reflection it may be a fair call. If you want a young woman on tap 24/7 there is a cost attached. ATM, aircon, family, food, drink, beautification, viagra, etc, ahh the wonders of this fair Country.

Seems a lot like here, though my gf does not complain about me wasting money. She loves saving on buying groceries and trying to keep me in check from spending too much (i can go overboard i like it if someone gives me a reality check once in a while). 

I would think in more cases than not ( including mine) where farrangs come from a colder climate and Thailand being so hot, it is us that want it colder and the GF that wants it hotter . My aircon bill 5k a month ( 70 sq metres) , GF likes it hotter but we don't have problems with it . We don't set it excessively cold, nothing like 7/11 or some taxis etc. Can always find a way to raise her body temp.

We do not have aircon in the house so no worries there, but the car. It can be 30+ outside and the girl will have the aircon fan on low so the car temp would be lucky to go to 28C. In winter it can be 18C outside and the first thing she does is turn the aircon on to drop the temp to 15C. Go figure.

It works both ways. Go back to a cold country in the winter and you.will be freezing. Takes awhile to get use to it. People who don't spend anytime outdoors are always freezing. My ex was terrible for this. I would say let's go for a walk...no its too cold. In the summer it was too hot.

I am a older foreigner and I just can not take the heat any more. I keep our bedroom cool and living room cool for me. It is a must I have to have it! 

I read where the utilities are going to be going up,  I think meter readers seem to know where we live!

The wife doesnt like the air conditioner on to much. Prefers the fan

Some interesting and funny answers. As I type this we are in bed and it is stinking hot but her skin is normal temp and she seems not bothered at all. Really don't understand it. Literally opposite of me always.

I have other problems too, my missus kicks and rolls around in her sleep.

Agreed. Once the room has cooled down, I turn control to 26.

 

I won't have AC on when I'm sleeping, but can't believe how many hotels only have AC and no fan, then put a duvet on the bed.

For starters you need to use a thermometer to measure her temp, as just putting your hand on her also depends on your temperature.

However, she does seem unusual in her responses to environment.

by the way... some people do NOT want to acclimatize but enjoy the comfort of airconditioning as one enjoys the comfort of heating living in a cold climate. no smart-àrse ever talks of acclimatizing when ambient temperatures are below freezing causing indoor temperatures without heating to drop to extremely uncomforable levels.
