Sorry if this has been covered already, but is there a quick method on the mobile device or internet web sites for both DTAC prepaid and TrueMove prepaid to check the status of my International Roaming capabilities? I would like to know before I leave.

Thanks for any pointers.

While my service will automatically into Laos when I'm near the border I'm pretty sure neighboring countries is the extent of the automatic roaming option. If you are planning a trip abroad and wish to continue using your Thai provider mobile service you'll need to actually call the provider service line and have them add roaming authorization. You may even need to select a 'roaming' package if you want cheaper than piracy Voice, SMS or Internet Data.

For DTAC/prepaid:

Activate International Service
Direct Number (USSD) *118*9#

IVR*1018  Press 9 Press 1

Interactive USSD (UMB)-

Deactivate International Service
Direct Number (USSD) *118*2*9#

IVR*1018  Press 9 Press 1

Interactive USSD (UMB)-

Not sure about TrueMove H/prepaid...maybe *113*1# send to activate, and *113*2# send to deactivate, using USSD.

Yes, thanks. I found a link somewhere before and *118# did it also for DTAC prepaid. Simple and get immediate SMS confirmation.

For True Move prepaid it was more difficult. Need to speak to a True rep online and ask for it. They need the ID number of the SIM owner to confirm it is OK also, just spoken to them, no need to send a copy. Then they are activated within 15 minutes. I think for True need to also have used SIM for at least 3 months also, but mine is over a year old so didn't ask.

You may be able to do this from the respective operators Android applications, and/or via their web-based management tools.

For example, in the DTAC app, go to "Other", choose "International Service", choose "Settings" (the gear), toggle any of the three options: IR, data, roaming, etc. Turn off WiFi first.

If i was you i would use the Dtac wifi calling app, while abroad you can use the app for sending/receiving calls and it will cost the same as if you was in Thailand for calls (not data) so you wont have to pay roaming charges.

She does allow me to speak to other people as well. I'm going to work in Myanmar and will be making local calls there, leaving the wife at home. Got an MPT local SIM there as well now, 4G in the sticks, not bad.
