Unexpected bonus following appendix removal. No IBS

Featured Replies

Fingers crossed... but 3 weeks after an appendix operation my digestive system is about as regular/optimal as I've been for years if not decades and I'm not doing anything different from before, ie, no IBS symptoms.

I'm wondering whether it has anything to do with the strong antibiotics (flagyl was one) that were administered following the burst appendix: is it possible that my gut was colonised by some bug-  h.pylori for instance.  Is there a bug that can mimic IBS symptoms?

Also, over the past decade I have suffered numerous stomach upsets that involved much the same pattern as the one that finally led to appendicitis proper.  They all involved considerable nausea and vomiting, bringing up bile only, but no runs, and culminated in a dull pain on the right side near the scar I now have.  They seemed subtly different from the food poisoning we all suffer from.  So, again I'm wondering, is it possible to merely have bouts of inflamed appendix without it becoming the defined condition we all know?

Incidentally, prior to surgery I had  xrays, ultrasound, blood check, and urine check, which appeared to show me in otherwise good health.

Finally,  for anyone living mid-south I can recommend the Thaksin Hospital in Surat Thani, even if they did double-bubble the insurance company.
