Back on the bike

Featured Replies

I had a total hip replacement three weeks ago, and today was my first time back on the bike.

3.3 km round the condo a few times, on the mountain bike because it's got a quick release saddle post clip; I had the saddle slightly low to make it easy to mount and dismount.

Next weekend's target will be a pub at the opposite end of the suburb, and then 200 km over the four days of Chinese New Year weekend the week after.  I'll see if I can find anywhere photogenic.

I managed 35 km with the elderly gentlemen on Sunday round country roads and city roads.

The new hip (and the new pedals - did I mention I got a Total Pedal Replacement two days before I went into hospital) were fine, but I am not as fit I was before my 4-week layoff.

I'm slightly nervous about managing a planned 100-km ride at Chinese New Year.

I'll try to remember to take some photos...

Test Case 1 on the shopping bicycle; 56 cans of beer.  I only managed a couple of kilometres round the condo grounds.

I did manage 102 km this morning on my road bike, so it seems I’m pretty well recovered.  Still a bit unfit, though, and the last 10 km brought the average speed down

Nowhere particularly photogenic, but the new blue bike lanes in KL

Easy to criticise, but harder to improve.

It started to rain, so we sheltered in the pub.

Unfortunately, it didn't stop, and we had to cycle home while we still could
