I have several questions regarding the requirements for obtaining a Non-Imm O Visa based on marriage in HCMC.

According to the embassy's website (http://www.thaiembassy.org/hochiminh/en/services/2886/34923-Non-Immigrant-Visa-"O"---Accompanying-sp.html) one of the requirements is:

  • Company or school's guarantee letter addressed to the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City stating that the applicant is spouse or family members of those working or studying in Thailand

I'm neither studying nor working Thailand. Does that mean, that I don't need such a letter?

  • Copy of passport pages of those working or studying in Thailand. The passport pages should include personal data page and Thai visa page.
  • Copy of Thai Work Permit or Student I.D.

Again they write about working or studying in Thailand, which is confusing. Besides the copy of the passport, do I need anything else?

I will also bring a singed copy of my wife's passport, housebook and birth certificate just in case.

Some embassies or consulates want to see airline tickets in and/or out of Thailand. Do I need to show these?

Also the website states that the processing time is 2 working days. Is this the usual procedure where I apply in the morning and pick up the visa the next day in the afternoon?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Once the visa run is done, I will report back as always :)

You clicked on the wrong non-o visa requirements.

You should of gone to this page. http://www.thaiembassy.org/hochiminh/en/services/2886/46902-Non-Immigrant-Visa-"O"---Accompanying-Th.html

Quote

For spouse of Thai nationals / Dành cho người có vợ/chồng là người quốc tịch Thái Lan

  • Guarantee letter wrritten in Thai from Thai spouse / Thư bảo lãnh từ vợ/chồng người Thái.
  • Copy of marriage certificate / Bản sao giấy đăng kí kết hôn hợp pháp.
  • Certified copy of Thai spouse’s ID card / Bản sao CMND hợp pháp của vợ/chồng người Thái.
  • Certified copy of house registration book / Bản sao hộ khẩu hợp pháp của vợ/chồng người Thái.

For the letter it is just a short letter from your wife requesting you be issued the visa.

Certified means copies signed by your wife.

The application form asks for a local guarantor.

That means one in Vietnam. You can leave it blank.

Your wife name would the "Name and Address of Guarantor in Thailand".

Was meant to be a statement; don't know why I put that question mark. My wife loved HCMC when was visiting my outsourcing partner there.

At the moment it seems no funds are required to be shown.

I'm going next month but will take proof of funds just in case.

Thank you ubonjoe for all the great advice.

I didn't even consider that I could obtain a METV in Ho Chi Minh City. I thought Savannakhet was the only place where it's possible to obtain a METV without proof of funds.

Are there any recent reports? I couldn't find anything so far.

Just a slight clarification: the multiple entry Non O and the METV (multiple entry tourist visa) are not the same. You would not be able to get the latter in HCMC, Savannakhet, or anywhere else in the region.

Oops I did indeed mean the Multiple Entry Non-immigrant O Visa. Thank you for the clarification.

You can only apply for a multiple entry tourist visa in your home country or country of legal residence.

The discussion is a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai. You can get one of those in Savannakhet or Ho Chi Minh City.

Not that I want to hijack this thread, but I was considering to apply for a METV in my home country (EU).

I was wondering whether I am "guaranteed" issuance of a METV in my home country? (I neither live, nor work there anymore, as I have been living and working  in Asia for the past few years. Once more, I don't work now, and could only provide my passport and a Thailand bank book, plus, possibly, a 'guarantee letter' from my girlfriend.)

It would depend upon the embassy or consulate where you apply. Some are less strict on the proof of employment. Some might accept proof of your employment outside your home country.

I think most would accept a Thai bank book showing the required 200k baht in it for 6 months.

So you mean, I would have to get a job in Thailand, just to apply for a ME Tourist Visa in my home country??

Well, I actually checked the requirements for both SETV and METV in my home country; for both of them the requirements are more complex and strict than at embassies in Asia. So what's the deal of 'applying in your home country'? Not to mention the expensive flight and hotel costs...

I meant a job outside Thailand since you mentioned you had been working in Asia.

So I get a 1-year job, say in China, then a METV? Well, that would be totally impractable. Unless, they accepted my employment contract from 18 months back (expired), but I guess they want a current contract.

Hi guys, need to pick your brains here, can anyone give me any advice/tips re: getting the 12 month multi non-O spouse visa in HCMC;  best way to get to embassy, can I use an agent? good places to stay and pitfalls to avoid etc, planning on going there in a week or so. Apparently I can get a Vietnam visa exemption (UK citizen) when I fly in.... cheers for any input here ????

No changes that I've seen.  Same things as for Savannakhet,  If married in Thailand, you need your Original Marriage Cert to show (you keep it), plus a copy of it, and copies of Wife's House Book and ID with her signature on those, plus (just for HCMC) a short note from your Thai wife requesting they give you the visa.

I also bring an updated Kor Ror 2 for these trips (proves you are still married as of the date issued), but so far, it has not been reported requested.

Others who use that location are better-suited to comment on UK-entry and travel in HCMC.

Thanks Jack. I guess I’ll use Grab or Uber for getting around. If anyone has any tips/ warnings for HCMC, much appreciated
