UN Special Envoy on Human Rights in Myanmar believes that State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was guilty of “complicity or neglecting to do anything to halt the systematic persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state, The Irrawaddy News Online reported on Friday (Feb 16).

In an interview with Channel 4 News posted to the British broadcaster’s website on Wednesday (Feb 14), Yanghee Lee said there were grounds for bringing Myanmar’s de facto leader before an international tribunal for failing to intervene in the military’s clearance operation in Rakhine state following attacks by Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) militants in August that killed 11 security officials.

She said the clearance operation which saw about 650,000 Rohingyas escaping to Bangladesh bears all the hallmarks of a genocide.

Oh how the mighty fall from grace, a saviour of the people to a puppet figurehead of the miltary.

Sad.

So many hopes.

So few results.

The military de facto holds all the power in Myanmar. San Suu Kyi has no real or imagined legal authority to even attempt to intervene in military decisions. The UN would do better to bring sanctions against the military leadership if it can get China to agree.

Yanghee Lee has long been virulently anti-Myanmar and only reports on what is to her advantage,.

No mention of the really important mass grave of NINETY TWO Hindus slaughtered by ARSA and their militia.

Or of the fact that

Indonesia, may I remind you, is an Islamic country.

And of course we all remember that on the evening before the Kofi Annan peace proposals were to be made public, ARSA attacked, in a mass attack, rebellion, police posts and killed over 50 officials.

We do remember that, don't we?
