The Protection Center for the Destitute - a governmental organisation that helps the poor - is under investigation in Khon Kaen after a student on work experience alleged they were ripping off the poor.

The case involves the falsification of 2,000 signatures on documents for benefits due to those on low income.

Counter corruption officer Thongsuk Na Phon said that a six member investigative committee was working on the case after Panida Yotpanya, 20, a fourth year undergraduate of humanities at Mahasarakham University reported alleged wrong doing.

It is claimed that while on work experience she was asked to submit false claims on behalf of the director of the center and five others.

Documents are being prepared said Thongsuk and on Wednesday interviews will begin to take place with poor people who it is alleged have been ripped off.

Thongsuk promised a fully transparent and speedy investigation.

Those involved have already been warned that they face charges in the matter giving them a fair chance to state their actual involvement.

Brave girl, hope she inspires others and also that she doesn't end up regretting it.

stating the obvious but Thailand needs many more like her to "move forward", and desperately needs to learn to encourage and reward them, whilst giving appropriate punishment to the corrupt officials if the allegations are proved.

its a shame but every man and his dog seem to be corrupt no matter in what branch of employment they are in, be it a dust cart,  a teacher, town hall, or a cop, the list is endless

Even india switched to iris-scanners to make sure the poor actually receive the benefits the government distributes. But thailand is behind again, as always, still using piles of papers and signatures.

For a country this corrupted i can only imagine how much resistence you will get for bringing up a new method which will limit corruption tremendously.

Ripping off the poor is a National Pastime in this country by all those who have even the smallest amount of power.     As soon as anyone gets the title 'Director', 'Manager' or 'Teacher' they are on the Gravy Train with almost no limitations.

Of course; it's a National disgrace but don't expect any change in your natural lifetime, as the whole country is rotten to the core !

Ripping off the needy or underprivileged just goes to show, how uneducated and emotionless these people can be.
