HI,

My daughter is half British Half Thai. Her previous UK Passport has expired. I have Thai Birth Certificate (copy) and British Birth Certificate for her.

Is it possible to get her a new UK passport without involvement by her mother (my Ex )

My daughter and I will be in Bangkok in a month so we can go to Trendy...

(I went thru the UK Gov Overseas Passport website a couple of times but seemed to wanted input from the Mother too)

Cheers,

SB.

How old is your daughter? Where was she born? Are you on the birth certificates as the father? Do you have any court documents regarding custody rights?

I renewed my daughter's british pasport at trendy.

Dont remember them asking to see custody papers of which I have.

Mother wasn't involved.

Renewal is easier than first passport.

I might have a slight issue ...my daughters passport expired January 2016...

I seem to recall reading on the gov.uk website something about 12 months being a limit for what I cant quite remember !

I'll try emailing VFS Global in Trendy.

I'm not aware that this will be an issue, all of the EU type (Red) passports can be renewed as far as I know, the only ones they treat as a new application are the old Blue ones and they would have expired by 2002.

Seems you need 1 from table A
Her passport will do

And 1 from table E
This is where it's dodgy, because it says only renewal and lost /stolen rather than just renewal

Think your best Emailing them but keep it simple .

Nope re help from VFS ....

How do I get further help?

Advice on how to apply for a passport and what supporting documents you need to provide can be found by country at:

http://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports

If after reading that advice carefully you have further questions you should contact the Passport Advice Line on 0044 300 222 0000 rather than your local Embassy or High Commission.

The Passport Advice Line is open at the following times:

Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm (UK time)
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, 9am to 5:30pm (UK time)

As your daughter has dual nationality, then I am pretty sure that the fact the passport has expired is immaterial, it would be highly unusual for a passport to expire whilst overseas if somebody held one nationality only.

Does your daughter hold a Thai passport? If so, don't forget that they will need a colour copy of EVERY page of this as part of the application process.

As I stated in my previous post, according the guidance on renewing a passport, all of the Red passports can be renewed as normal, regardless of expiry.

Please do let us know how you go on calling the helpline, as I have purposely left both of my sons passport renewals so that they can get adult ones, both have expired.

O/P. I'm pretty sure that if you go to the following link and follow the very simple step-by-step instructions, you'll get the answer you are seeking. Go give it a try.

https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/filter/overseas

This cannot be used for renewing a UK passport in Thailand, the link you provided is for online applications only, plus it has timed out.

Really, then you most certainly did not get the passport delivered to Thailand or say you were here, you cannot, or at least should not renew a passport using the online system whilst in Thailand.

Fill in the details in this Gov website and this will tell you how you can renew.

Mattd, go spend 5 minutes, or less, with mouse, (or whatever) and click on the link I provided and then the one you provided.

In either case you will end up on exactly the same page.

Go on. Go do it now.

For the O/Ps benefit, Once you have followed down through Q & A routine you will know exactly how to apply for a passport, here in Thailand. And, hopefully you will have the answer to your specific queries re your daughter.

@Moonlover agreed that your link does go through the same steps and will come to the same conclusion, which is that you cannot renew a British passport online whilst in Thailand.

Screenshot of the how to apply using your link.

Which, as has been stated is by making an appointment at Trendy Office Building, then actually going and applying in person, or using an authorised person. So I repeat, you cannot renew your passport online whilst here.

There are many that wish we could, including me.

When and where did I say, or even imply, that you can apply for a passport on- line from Thailand? I never said that.

I merely steered the O/P to the appropriate link, which is the global link for anyone wishing to renew their passport from abroad, Thailand included.

And as you have kindly provided a screen shoot from that very website to which I referred him to, you have confirmed that I was 100% correct! Thank you.

Then I do apologise, as the link you provided is also the link for an online application and when you replied utter rubbish you used it in Thailand then I draw the wrong conclusion.

If you Google 'renew UK passport overseas', then the first proper hit is https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports

As it turns out, both sites do exactly the same thing.

Note for the OP, be aware that might be a slight possibility that Trendy ask for you to provide items from table E (see linked document) seeing as you are applying for a Child passport renewal.

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/564959/OS_Guidance_G3_10.16.pdf

As you must fill in the application form giving details of both parents, if you can fill in the section, then it should be OK as there is no requirement to provide the parents documents again, as it is a renewal.

I delayed renewing the UK passport of my son in Thailand as he was about a year away from reaching his 16th birthday when it expired. This meant his new passport had a ten year validity, not five years for the child PP. Having a Thai passport was fine for the regional travel during that interim period.

No problem with the UK passport renewal at Trendy and, as you also stated, a colour copy of both his passports was indeed needed in the application process.

Oh well didn't get very far, I need a copy of my daughter's Thai passport which is with the ex so I'm sort of screwed there then !

Yes if your daughter is a dual national you need to provide colour copy of every passport page of her other passport.
