Second question of the day :whistling:.

My Two children will soon need to have the proper Visas (nearly 15 years old) so am trying to get information towards obtaining Thai Passports for them (their Mother is Thai and they were born in the UK).

As I understand you can only get a Thai Birth Certificate from the embassy of their country of birth. Is this the only option ? Or can someone suggest a reasonably priced agency that could assist ?

Many Thanks in advance.

As Ubon Joe said, organise the paper work as is required by the Thai embassy in London.

you can then head to submit the paperwork at the department of consular affairs in Bangkok and they will send off the paperwork for you.

The embassy's requirements are here. http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/82037-Birth-&-Death-Registration.html

I think you mean Birth Registration. One can only get a birth certificate in the country one was born.

The child was born in the UK and the application for it will be sent to embassy in London.

The embassy website shows it as birth registration and certificate.

Not quite, if a Thai National is born overseas then the Thai embassy in that country will issue them with a Thai birth certificate in addition to whatever birth cerificate that country issues.

I have 2 BC’s. One from Australia where I was born, one from the Thai embassy in Canberra.

I stand corrected. Is your Thai BC the same as that of a Thai born in Thailand?

A Thai/British kid, born in Thailand can't get a British birth certificate.

However they can get a certificate of registration of the birth, which is different.

Mine is from 1992 (two decades after I was born when the Thai citizenship act was amended granting me citizenship automatically) but as far as I know they are still the same. Mine looks a lot like this below (although all printed in blue on extremely thin paper). nb. below is an example of how to fill in the form from the UK. The embassy then take it and type it up and print it out.

Thanks, looks much the same, apart from the top left not having registry office.

Hi again Joe,

Would we all have to attend MFA in person ? Would much rather go on my own as we would all have to travel down from Isaan, too much headache and time.

Thanks

Not sure but I think at the least you and your wife would have to be present for them to witness you signatures on the application.

I suggest you contact them to confirm what is needed. Contact info is here in Thai. http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/services/6441/71869-สถานที่ให้บริการ.html

You might be able to do it at the office here in Ubon that is shown on that page. Again contact them to confirm.
