What are the procedures to buy diplomatic car and convert to normal car (Diplomatic car has blue number plate).

Will there be taxes if that car imported by diplomat (Which is duty free for them)

I am not sure about a car but I bought a motorbike from an Italian diplomat a few years ago and the responsibility for conversion lies with the diplomat. It takes a fair while to do and in my case it was done at the Chatuchak DLT. Tax may have to be paid but it depends on the age of the car and how long it has been in Thailand. My motorbike was actually bought while the diplomat was in Germany so he imported an older vehicle.

Make sure that the diplomat sends one of his office staff who know what they are doing to help you out as you will be wandering around the offices looking for the right desk.

The DLT are very helpful, the car will have to pass the inspection and you may have to wait a while for the new plates. Many of the staff speak good English.

It isn't hard with Thai helpers but it is boring at the DLT for a while, so take a book or 2 to pass the time. There are plenty of places to eat Thai food and get a drink.

I got there at just before 8 am and was finished by 1pm.

Logic would tell you only one fifth but this is Thailand

Unfortunately this is a customs issue so I don't know the answer but like most things here it will probably be up to the Royal Thai Custom Officer that is assigned to the case.

I have a feeling that it will not be too much as it is already 13 years old and in Thailand for 4 years already.

However as Langsuan Man says it will depend on the Customs guy on the day.

You and I are the only ones that I have heard of to go down this route.
