Soldiers deployed in a line to face off with Redshirt protesters on April 13, 2009, in Bangkok

BANGKOK — Prosecutors on Monday indicted nine Redshirt leaders on charges of insurrection for leading an anti-government protest nearly a decade ago.

The indictment accused the group of inciting unrest and an open rebellion against the government of Abhisit Vejjajiva in a April 2009 protest, which saw parts of Bangkok occupied for several days. One Redshirt leader named in the indictment said he’s surprised the authorities are pursuing the case after years of silence.

After nine years?

That's quick compared to some cases!

But of course they would never have been brought to trial or prosecuted or the cases progressed during Shin regimes.

It seems a phenomenon here that previous issues can be shelved and then brought out when deemed timely.

None of these "leaders" were ever elected as such btw.

Unelected leadership, rampant corruption, nepotism, unaccountability to the rule of law and malicious prosecution of political rivals...... the Junta is worse than Thaksin on every single count.

No better perhaps, but hardly worse as he tried is best to be number 1!

And none of which excuses either side.

Let's have some REAL news, like the start of their trial for those charges that have been waiting for years.

The delay is unfortunate given the political upheaval caused by the military's own insurrection of the Yingluck regime in 2014. For which there will never be a trial - that would be REAL news.

But but but if you say that you must be a red shirt wearing, Thaksin loving no good falang from Isaan without your own independent opinion. As everything is black and white on TV :saai:

Of course there was no delay caused by the appointment to parliament, was there? And what's wrong with that, appointment to parliament of those facing multiple serious criminal charges happens everywhere - just democracy in action, right?
