Next month we're back to Isan to visit family but Rather than let family ferry us around as usual we are thinking about whether I should drive my father-in-laws new car.

However does anyone know if it's possible to arrange car insurance for myself for a couple of weeks on my father-in-laws car ?

Im having problems finding this out and I'm reluctant to drive without insurance knowing how things can work out for a foreigner if I'm unfortunate to be involved in an accident.

I've driven abroad before but never Thailand as my wife always worries about it with me being a foreigner. She cannot drive.

Thanks

You need to clarify a bit more!  Is it a actually new car or a old car that is new to him?

If it is new whether he finance or not they are accustom to giving the buyer one year free along with other items, if that is the case he should have the policy carried in the vehicle?

Not sure if the vehicle is uninsured if so, go to a broker if you are in Pattaya,  AA Insurance across Big C, Pattaya Tai or Agent Neng who is located in the Pattaya People newspaper office and check located a Soi off TukCom.

Interested to see how you get on. I looked into it and had to buy one years worth of class 1 insurance they do not do 1 month.... or at least I could not find it. I needlessly pay premiums for 2 vehicle when we are only there for 1 to 2 months in the year.

If required, see my previous post, OP could get insurance, and as soon as not needed cancel the policy. With 1 month out of 12 used and some added expenses for the company, should be about 9 months refund or so.

I would not leave a vehicle of any significant value uninsured.

Yeah... agree this is why I continue to pay even though they remain on axles stands in locked garages when not in use. You still get the fire and theft coverage.

After checking around I found full coverage zero deductible MC insurance for ฿2000 a year. I don’t know what auto rates are, but I doubt they are terribly much more expensive even if ฿10,000 wouldn’t it be better than worrying?  Buy a years coverage then cancel could be an option also.

i think the cost of the annual insurance would depend on the age/value of the car the op intends to use, if as posted it will be less than a year old when he takes the reigns it will be covered by class 1 insurance, if the car is older then a class 2+ could be obtained, at a cheaper rate than class 1,

Grumpy Duck, where did you find this motrbike insurance and is it for a proper bike or a twist and go

It is for a rental Yamaho Mio. I wanted extra insurance to cover me as I wasn’t confident with the insurance I purchased through the rental agency.  I am not sure where I found the agency. I think it may have been a reply to a TV post or I googled it. Cannot remember.
