Australians charged with credit card fraud in Thailand

Thai immigration police say they have arrested two Australian nationals who were found in possession of fake credit cards while shopping at a Bangkok mall.

John Husein Lerovski, 46, an Australian born in the former Yugoslavia, and Vasilios Laskaris, 51, of Greek origin, were apprehended at the shopping mall late on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say both men are from Sydney.

Immigration police swooped on the pair after store owners reported that they were behaving suspiciously, and found Lerovski and Laskaris in possession of 10 fake credit cards.

Materials for counterfeiting money were later discovered at the men's apartment in the northern outskirts of the capital.

Police revoked their visas and charged the pair with using fake electronic cards.

The charge carries a sentence of up to seven years behind bars and a fine of 140,000 baht ($5,086).
