Thong Lor police get their man for attacking one of their own: Not Boss... this one is Burmese

The son of a wealthy millionaire has given himself up to Thong Lor police in Bangkok amid claims he attacked a police constable after a roadside alcohol stop.

But despite it being the same precinct as the infamous dragging under the Ferrari case of Red Bull heir "Boss" this involved an entirely different suspect.

The man is from Myanmar.

A video that was shared on social media caught the moments when a policeman fled a car being driven to Thong Lor police station. The cop was allegedly attacked and documents were damaged before the policeman fled in a taxi for his own safety.

The drama began in the early hours of the morning at a checkpoint in the Klong Toey area near the Kluai Nam Thai intersection on Rama IV Road.

Constable Phitak Woramoon, 52, a traffic cop, pulled over a BMW sports car and checked the driver who had 114 milligrams of alcohol that is over the limit.

The driver was later found out to be Larry Zaw, 31, the son of very wealthy Burmese businessman living in Thailand.

It was decided that the constable would travel in the BMW with the driver and his two friends to Thong Lor police station several kilometers away to complete formalities in the case.

Protocol required two police to go in the vehicle but staff shortage meant Phitak had to go alone, reported Thai Rath.

But when the car was driven in a roundabout route and ended up in the area of the Rama IV entrance to the expressway the constable feared that he was about to have his weapon snatched from him and used against him.

He fled the vehicle and was chased by Larry Zaw who allegedly grabbed the documents including the alcohol report and allegedly assaulted the cop before the policeman fled in a taxi.

This was caught on the video.

Yesterday Larry Zaw gave himself up to Thong Lor police and has been charged with assault on a policeman, damaging documents and drink driving.

He denies everything.

Thai Rath reported that he is the son of a wealthy businessman. His visa is in order.

The police were debating yesterday whether to free him on 200,000 baht bail.

They intend to re-interview him along with his two friends to see if they should face charges too.

Investigations continue.

The case bears some similarities to that of Vorayuth Yoovidhya, 32, the billionaire fugitive who is the heir to the Red Bull fortune.

In 2012 it is claimed that he killed a policeman after dragging him under the wheels of his Ferrari in the same Thong Lor jurisdiction where this latest case transpired.

"Thong Lor Police Station", that's all I needed to know.

Am I allowed to say: "You can't make this stuff up?"  We seem to say it so often lately!  At least he was Burmese again.  That gives us something else to comment on.  Counting  "1, 2, 3, 4, ......................."

This is Thailand not the US.

So... At a Police Check Point, a Man (Burmese) was pulled over and found to be 3x the legal drink driving limit.

However, the Police allowed him to continue driving to Thonglor Police station to 'continue formalities'.

I'm wondering if these 'formalities' involved a visit to the ATM escorted by a Policeman.... and then the demands increased... annoying the drunk driver who in his indignant and inebriated state became angered and fought the Policeman who was alone and probably froze... too scared to draw his gun.

Said he was the son of a "wealthy millionaire".

Are there poor millionaires?

Does the police have the authority to set bail? Doesn't a judge have to that?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

How ridiculous talk about comedy capers. Sometimes i cant even beleive that this stuff really happens, its just beyond a joke. You could handle that situation with 1 arm and a bung leg. This biggest problem would be trying get a Bangkok Taxi that would actually stop

I was walking on the footpath one night and this goose on a bicycle barely missed me and my lady and bumped a cop
Well he abused the cop then for making him stop. Then this goose kept yak yak the cop who did nothing to shut him up. He was an indian guy i think. Then he started on me so basically i told him <deleted> off
And on his bike away he went.
Point is there just not forceful enough and people just disrespect them alk the time

Very good observation...
