Car sales this year to exceed 900,000 units

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) says the country’s automobile industry is picking up both in production and sales with sales target end of this year to exceed 900,000 units.

 

FTI’s acting vice president and automobile club president Surapong Paisitpatanapong said the general outlook of the industry is improving with production and sales, both for local market and for export in March picking up.

 

He said production in March this year was 195,257 units, up 9.21% from the same month last year, and the highest in the past 56 months since 2013.

...and the average shop house is 4m wide and most cars are 4.5m long so where will they all park?

Forget the traffic and where to park them, where is the money coming from to buy them? Another 900,000 Thais earning 10k a month and paying 10k in repayments.

IMHO the reason for all the mayhem on the road is , vehicles are easier to buy ( low interest , H.P ) etc.

Plus the fact that there are more automatics readily available , so they become point and go vehicles with out having to learn .

Where as with the manual gearbox , you had to have some road time / learning before you could master the clutch.

Yeah, big thing for Thais, having the new pick-up or Mercedes in the driveway. Of course, how many of those car loans get honoured is a different question.

And thatd why my wife and son learnt on manual cars.he just got his first car did not even look at an automatic

This is the reason RTP don't issue fines Thais cannot afford to pay a fine, but can afford to go and put a downpayment on expensive vehicle.  Clearly one mixed up country!!!!!!!!

Had a neighbour in BKK who had a nice shiny merc' in the drive that was only driven during the first week of every month because he could only afford one tank of gas a month.
