Video: Aunty forgets to brake! Nearly kills herself at level crossing

CiHZjUdJ5HPNXJ92GRjmidzxjFNgcRVLUu.jpg

CCTV footage from the PR page of the State Railways on Facebook showed the moment a woman on a motorcycle failed to see a barrier down at a level crossing as an express train approached.

The woman's neck collides with the barrier and her bike goes onto the tracks. She is also perilously close to the line.

She is able to get up and a crossing official runs to her aid to retrieve the bike.

Seconds later the 167 Express from Bangkok to Kantang goes thorough the crossing.

The PR team at the SRT praised the actions of the official - Phijit Meuankaew - for saving the day.

The incident happened Saturday morning just before 8am near the station of Lang Suan on the mainline heading south towards Chumpon.

Thai Rath said that "pa" (or aunty) had failed to brake.

Hard to find words.

How serious must an eyesight problem be and how deaf the ears to overlook and overhear this barrier???

(overhear: the video has no tone but I am quite certain that a bell is beaten)

Rational explanation?

No blinding by the sun, the visor shouldn't be that dark (forbidden by the way).

She brakes, but very very late.

Was it an epic failure trying to jump the barrier?

Ridiculous.

Speaks volumes on driving style and it was amusing.

This years Thai motorcycle limbo dance representative still needs some practice...

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect

Luckily, she wasn't riding fast and was wearing a helmet.  The barrier did come down quite fast.  There've been examples of far worse tbh.  It's a genuine accident.  Most of us have walked in to things that weren't there a few seconds ago.

Lets hope when/if they get those promised super fast trains running,

that they invest in much better barriers.

She probably forgot to take it off from the previous week.

Truth be told, a lot of these barriers and barrier cones are so dirty, that they do not reflect anymore.

Yeah, don't want to derail that one. That's the one which breaks the sound barrier.

I think Aunty's the one for breaking barriers.

She hits the barrier at 53 secs point... All the time, those big flashing orange lights are warning normal people of a hazard !!

I'm surprised most people ever arrive at their destinations here, I guess scooters must have auto pilot ???

Nor was she on her phone, so actually that puts her in the 'clever group' for Thailand!

I wish I could slow that down because I was trying to see if that was a phone in her right hand. The right hand comes up sharply upon impact, as though see was not holding the bar.

Too fast for me to tell.

She's not too good at multi-tasking - i.e. driving and concentrating at the same time.

rather demeaning thing to say about birds

Maybe a Thai cannot process too much information, such as:
1: Ride bike
2: Pay attention to your surroundings

Would explain a lot of accidents.

What can one even say? When driving, especially on a motorbike in Thailand, the basic responsibility of the rider is to keep their eyes open at all times, and be on the lookout for obstacles, other vehicles, stop signs, traffic lights, railroad crossings, etc. That is just basic driving, and the skills required. She appears to have been asleep. No consciousness of the road, no awareness, no scanning of obstacles, none of the basic skills or habits required to drive safely. Maybe no sleep? Hard to say. But she is obviously an accident waiting to happen. It is no wonder Thailand has the highest fatality rate in the world for motorbikes and cars both. The apparent lack of basic skills here can be stunning at times.

Thai drivers see nothing past three metres from their front wheels; how else to explain the duckheads (typo) who race past towards a red light and then have to brake violently?

My mind just could not arrive at anything after watching the video clip.

Well her hand appeared to be down on approach rather than up to her head. Perhaps she had earphones on which would also keep her in the 'smart' group! I see so many  ladies riding bikes who appear to be oblivious to the world about them.

She goes through the crossing every day at that time and the barrier has never been down before.

Wow!

How about a high five for the crossing official !

Alert, responsive.  A job well done.

Hope he is as good after he gets his smart phone fixed.

Pass or fail... Either way, she was close to 'crossing over'
