Five people have been handed over to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) this morning (Friday) linked to the discovery of 1800 bars of ‘Powergel’ in Pathum Thani last month. Powergel is routinely used as a mining explosive and comes in the form of bars.

Two of the suspects are 46 year old Yutthana Chidchol, a police officer from Sakoo station in Phuket, and 55 year old Boonlert Nanphimai who is wanted in Pathum Thani.

According to reports earlier this week, ammonium nitrate fertiliser plus other bomb-making materials, including more Powergel bars, were found in Yutthana’s house in Thalang, Phuket.

Officers from the Royal Thai Army, the Phuket Provincial Police and Forensic Police searched the house. Inside they found two 30 litres and two 20 litres drums of ammonium nitrate fertiliser, 200 detonators.

100kg of ammonium nitrate and 200 detonators would suggest they were doing 200 x 500 gram bombs.

Eg. They were not planning to do a one big terrorist explosion to be detonated at a mall or similar location. Anyone know what these 'powergel bars' really are?

Pure speculation. It would be interesting to know what they were planning.

Powergel 901 is a high strength, robust detonator sensitive emulsion explosive. The explosive is grey in colour with afirm putty-like consistency. It is packaged in plastic film with wire clips.

Powergel 901 is a water resistant packaged explosive designed to deliver high energy. It can be used in both priming applications and as a high density column explosive. Powergel 901 cartridges are packaged in film, which readily splits during tamping to maximize coupling and bulk strength within a blasthole.

The high resistance of Powergel 901 to dynamic desensitization makes it the preferred explosive for use in tunnelling, shaft sinking and other extreme blasting environments.

Well done CSD get rid of this scum.

Well done CSD get rid of this scum.

Not sure I would give CSD much credit for this
