i am the proud owner of A vw golf mk3, 1997 1.8 auto

 

my car is not working...if i take off the airfilter and squirt petrol down the throttle body it runs for a bit..

 

i need a tester to plug into the diagnostic port..

 

about from the local vw dealer, does anyone pocess such an item

Does it have an SU carburettor ?

1997 - hardly

Do you hear the fuel pump build up pressure when you turn the key to on, but before turning to start ? No noise, no fuel.

If you prime manually and it starts this is where I would look.

Either the pump is gone, or the relay and/or solenoid is defective, or just a blown fuse.

I wonder if such old cars have a diagnostic plug ?

And where can we find VW dealer in Thailand :-)

Just like Peugeot French cars, I wonder who is buying VW when BMW and Benz are everywhere for the same price and better cars ?!

And might have two pumps, some have a tank pump to feed the main pump..

 

 

 

Don’t disconnect a fuel line from the carburetor to see if it’s pumping...
