Video: Appalling driving but guilty party gets off scot free!

CiHZjUdJ5HPNXJ92GRhGaIqhI7wz8BYmCK.jpg

Dash cam footage from the Chiang Mai to Pai road on Sunday showed a yellow plated minivan overtake another van in front.

This caused an oncoming van to swerve into the hard shoulder, lose control and smash into the dash cam car.

An appeal has been made to try and find the van that was largely responsible for the accident.

It happened at kilometer marker 5 about 11.30 am.

The footage was posted on the page of Waritnan Khamlao and shared to YouLike (clip det).

When your too stupid and viscous to drive mototaxi, you must drive van.   Roadside execution may be only solution.

Up to that point he seemed to be observing the solid central lines  then  it told him it was OK to overtake!

The reason the van on the shoulder lost control is because it did a hard right turn to get back on the road

Try climbing even a 3" lip at 80km/hr and you'll quickly discover that you don't need to make a hard right, because the road does that for you.

The 2nd best thing he could have done is to stay on the shoulder and slow down before even attempting to get back on the road.

Of course, the very best thing he could have done is to not get anywhere near the turd who forced him off the road.

I witness this every day during the school run. Thankfully the only damage so far has been to my aircon (ruptured by debris when a lorry in opp lane lost its load!).

Shit driving by both vans, the oncoming van had plenty of space and didn't to go so far off the road to begin with.

I am amazed that there is no mention of anyone being hurt though.

The dash cam car hurt for sure!

People get away with this behaviour as there is no enforcement of driving standards, insurance and repairs are relatively cheap, as is concern for life.

The financial and criminal penalties are so high in the West, people are frightened into taking care. As prosperity increases here, so costs may also rise to match.

Oncoming van at fault...

Plenty of room for 3 vans there, no need for him to go off road and lose control !!!

School boy error !!!

You're confusing being at fault, and missing out on the last clear chance to avoid the accident.

It may be clear that he had enough room with a nice case of hindsight and benefit of the dash cam, but counting on having enough room when your butt cheeks are like rocks and the closing speed is 200km/hr is just asking to die.

The last clear chance to avoid the accident belonged to the oncoming van, and he did choke.  But the fault was with the van who violated right of way.
