Greetings All

Due to a combination of neglect and misadventure, my teeth are in an awful state. To start on the road to recovery, I want to find a Dentist to do some work to clean and polish my choppers. I'll need a dentist who is proficient at this work, speaks english and charges a reasonable fee.

If you have any suggsestion about a suitable dentist and not my teeth, please post them here

regards

Roderick

######, You guys are getting screwed big time. No wonder people treat farangs like walking ATM's. Good cleaning should not cost more than 500 baht. Xrays are about 100 per.

Good cleaning should not cost more than 500 baht

for your socks and underwear maybe.

a neglected mouth with a heavy build up of tartar over a few years , leading to the chronic periodontal inflammation that always accompanies this , along with some gingival pocketing and loss of contour could take more than one visit to sort out.

left untreated , this slowly progressing , painless and often symptomless condition will lead to irreversible loosening and loss of teeth.

be prepared for a couple of sessions.

if the negelect has been going on for years , and your gums are swollen or puffy or bleed when you floss , then get some x-rays taken to check how much of the bone around the roots of the teeth has been lost.

scaling and polishing should be done at least yearly , and for those who produce lots of tartar , twice a year.

worth going to a decent clinic ( the dental hospital , suk. 49) for a full check if your have really avoided the dentist for a long while.

they will give you a full damage report and treatment plan for about 1200b , and you can decide whether to have treatment there or somewhere else. you can ask for your xrays if you decide to have treatment somewhere else.

a scaling and polishing there costs around 1000 , for about a half an hour , but you may need more than one session.

check "gingivitis" and "periodontal disease" on the web , learn a bit about what you might or might not have before going , it will enable you to understand the dentist better , and enable you to question him/her intelligently about any ongoing condition and treatment.

definately a wise move to get the gums sorted before the teeth , unless you are having pain from a tooth.

Went to the dental clinic at Samitivej on Suk 49 this morning.

Cost 1400 baht. Compared with OZ, this is a bargain.

I've tried the places that you see in Malls etc, and to be honest, they aren't worth it even though the are cheaper as the job isn't that good. Maybe I've been 'spoilt' but growing up in OZ one of my dads good mates was one of Australia's premier orthodontists who did our annual check ups, so at least to my mind, I know what a good dentist should be like.

A good bit of info to note is to also try the university hospitals, such as Chula. My dentist works there a couple of days per week.

I do not recommend BNH Dental Clinic if you are concerned about cost. I went there to have a small filling replaced, a simple job, no decay, just a fill-the-hole-back-up sort of thing. I was in the dentist's chair less than 40 minutes start to finish and they charged almost 5,000 ThB. I was new to Bangkok then, I know better now.

Best (and reasonable) is Bamrungrad Hospital. Dr. Saisuda. She speaks great english and will tell you exactly where you stand (i.e. she will not try to sell you something that you do not need). The place is impossibly clean. Well worth it

After trying several dentists in BKK; I recommend Dentalis at Vejthani Hospital in Lad Phrao. Had a wisdom tooth pulled by Dr. Thepharith Wathraphoudej. He was thoroughly professional, spoke good English (as some of his dental education was acquired abroad in Australia) and was warm and friendly.

The whole office staff was professional as well; I received a phonecall the day after to see if everything was going good.

Oh, and the total price for X-ray, local anesthesia and extraction was 1500 baht.

I agree with others, that the Dental Hospital on Sukhumwit 49? is overpriced. For a check up, they tapped about 3 of my teeth and then said I had to have 800 baht x-rays performed to check the rest. I decided to go elsewhere for service because of the price. Unfortunately, if you go to some of the smaller dentist offices the quality is often hit or miss. I made the mistake of going to a smaller office for a couple of years, due to the lower prices and the friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, their standards weren't the highest and I had many repeat visits (free of charge) to patch up previous visits. :o It took me a couple years to figure out, even if the dentist is nice and prices are fair-- it doesn't mean the quality is good.

That's when I moved on to Vejthani.

Here's the website and phone numbers. You can also check out the dentists' education on their personal websites.

i also went there recently and was surprised how expensive it was for dental work... for other medical needs though BNH is my favorite.

Depends where you are in BKK I guess, there is a really good group of Dentists at Chaengwattana Road, Chaengwattana (Laksi end) just near the intersection of Chaengwattana 14 Rd. No need to book ahead, normally you can get seen rather quickly and the few dentists I have dealt with there have spoken english and I don't believe they overcharged.

Hi Mangoman, does Dr Saisuda do teeth whitening (like laser in one or two sessions)? I live very close to Bumrungrad, but did not see that on their list of practices. Thanks, Thairet
