BANGKOK — Police said Tuesday they are looking for more than 1,000 women for illegally promoting online gambling for the upcoming World Cup.

Deputy Police Chief Gen. Chalermkiat Sriworakan said warrants have been issued for more than 1,000 promotional models, known as pretties, featured in online gambling promotions for about as many websites. Police said they would identify the site operators and obtain court orders to shut them down.

There is a tsunami on gambling going on here and it can't be stopped...the locals like to have a flutter. Might as well give up on trying to enforce such antiquated laws from the killjoy brigade, tax it instead and stop making criminals out of otherwise pretty normal people. Oh...and whilst your at it, let it go on the prostitution thing to, same thing and not going away either.

Yes it makes criminals out of normal people ,sometimes the guys have no money to cover their bet and resort to robbery and stealing to make sure their arm or leg is not broken.

Make it legal like Singapore. Less costly to manage and extra tax revenue.

Is it really totally legal for all Singaporeans el?

Killjoy brigade?

Perhaps you could mention that many many Thai youngsters are addicted to football gambling for big money and end up in massive debt and then get into other not good activities to try to pay off their debts, including steal from their parents,  just one more big gamble which if it pays off will bring the funds to settle their debts, but no such luck just a bigger debt.

When my Thai son was at university he got harassed several times because he wouldn't loan big money to his class mates so they could pay off the football / gambling debts.

He stood his ground until they realized they needed to find another source of cash to pay their debts.

This kind of thing simply cannot be tolerated and they must be punished.

As a concerned, public-minded individual, I volunteer to give each and every one of the 'pretties' a good spanking.

Me too

It will be a field day with 1,000 pretties and probably the same number of officers hanging around for Thailand's biggest-ever photo opportunity.

If it takes place in Bangkok, the press photographers will have to stand somewhere near Nakon Nowhere to get everyone into the shot.

It must make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Will require a lot of cops to point the finger at 1,000 ladies for the media pic?

Gambling is illegal? Police never knocked on my neighbours doors but know full well whats going on.

Chasing pretties? Idiots or perhaps its an ego thing with most bib being uglies.

If you catch them. Send em to my house. Ill punish them.

So, when they say they have warrants to arrest a thousand girls, does that mean that they know the names of a thousand girls that they want to arrest?   Or, does it just mean that they think there might be a thousand girls breaking the law and they might arrest them if they see them?  Sometimes I have my doubts about when journalists or police say they have arrest warrents.

Catching a thousand pretties, what are the odds on that happening?

Two to one you did.

Imagine a Thailand where the police put the man-power involved in busting 'morality crimes' such as gambling, and instead apply those man-hours to putting police in patrol cars and monkey-hammering Thai motorists who thumb-their-noses at Thai traffic laws?  Can you imagine a Thailand like that where Thailand is no longer even in the top-10 most dangerous roads of in the world?  10 to 1 you probably can't.

There's a queue formed already.

I'll bet they've all got two hands to point. Oops, that's a cert, not a bet (apart from the amputee of course - the RTP being an equal opportunities employer.)

What with the latest edict about criminal checks at Road Checks ( 50 years behind the rest of the world )  and looking for these pretties, just shows how bloody idiotic the RTP really are.

They were hired as models. Show up, do your makeup, smile, flirt a bit. Cops should be going after the organizers. Not that hard to find the advertisers, webmasters, etc.

Better start preparing an entire wing at the high-security Women's Correctional Facility... for it soon will be filled to the brim with pretties, the hardened criminals that they are.
