Satun man killed while cleaning grenade

By The Nation

A man in Satun province was killed on Wednesday morning when a grenade he was cleaning exploded.

The man had been keeping the grenade in his house for a year, police said.

Prasert Chuayjit, 59, was killed in his house in Ban Tha Chin village in Tambon Klong Khud, Muang district, at around 7am.

The blast tore off his left arm and the shrapnel disfigured his face.

His son told police that Prasert had found the grenade a year ago and he liked to take it out for cleaning now and then although his children had warned him against doing so.

Pol Colonel Witchaphan Chantaraporn, commander of the investigation division of the Satun Police head office, said Prasert had no record of violent crimes or political violence.

My GF say's he thought it was a Pineapple and wondered why they had started putting pins through them.

Quick,  educate your girlfriend!

He or she, doesn't matter.

Don't understand... My GF say's she thought that 'he' (meaning the dead guy) thought it was a pineapple?

OK

Again no matter to me but  I'm glad the grenade is no longer a threat to the village community.

This time he took the pin out for a thorough cleaning.

They could've used his expertise at the local barracks cleaning all their stock grenades.

I can understand liking war relics but maybe he should of stuck to polishing his helmet .

Some men play with cards. Some with cars. Some with women, and some with video games. Never heard of a man playing with a grenade. Beyond comprehension.

An old professor of mine used to love to say "there are many things that people say and do that are completely beyond my ability to grasp, or understand". Great line. It really seems to apply to an abundance of situations here in Thailand.

What kind of imbecile periodically cleans his favorite hand grenade in the house?

I guess the answer to that question is -- a dead one with his arm blown off and his face disfigured.

Darwinism at work once again in Thailand.
