A month ago, I had a really violent case of food poisoning. Up all night vomiting.

At the time, I put it down to a packaged spaghetti meal I bought at one of the big groceries. However, I've had second thoughts about the salad I had with it.

Just about every salad bar in Thailand probably has red kidney beans as one of the items for sale. Apparently just one UNCOOKED red kidney bean contains enough of a sugar-based protein called phytohaemagglutinin to make the average person ill. Therefore, if the beans have not been cooked thoroughly, the risk is there.

Just wondering if someone has had a similar food poisoning experience.

Well it's one of those 2 ,depends what time of day you bought the spaghetti,

the salad not washed properly,is another contender.doubt it would be the

red kidney bean.

There are a number of possibilities. Food poisoning is not the same as a bacterial or viral infection such as gastroenteritis, which can last for 2-4 days. My symptoms cleared within 24 hours. I'll stick with Occam's razor.

Actually most food poisioning  is  a bacterial gastroenterities. The duration will vary depending on the causative organism.  Some are very rapid onset and pass quickly.

Other types of food poisoning, e.g. eating toxic substances, are rare. Whereas food poisoning from bacterial causes is extremely common.

Salad bars are very common sources. The longer food sits  out, the greater the chance of bacterial growth, and food is often out for some time at salad bars. Anything containing mayonnaise is especially quick to go off.
