Wallander4 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Does anybody have experience with Citibank and transfer money out of Thailand ? Apparently it should be possible to open an account and transfer out of Thailand while residing in another country - meaning you dont have to appear physically at your bank as most of these stoneage thai banks wants ... Should even be for free up to 45k USD per day
FarangRimPing Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I often transfer money between my Citibank US account and Citibank Thailand. It's instantaneous. I can also check the account balances of the other account from both of them. Transfers are free but the FX rates are bad, so it's good for small transfers but not large ones because I could get better FX rates from another bank. I also get free ATM withdrawals from anywhere in the world but I think it's because I have a Citigold account.

All of those "stone age Thai banks" offer internet banking that allows the transaction you are asking about, doesn't the ex-bankrupt Citibank? 1 1 1

As best as I recall, that kind of online international transfer capability is only available to CitiGold and higher Citibank accounts -- not the regular (non-high balance) ones whether in the U.S. or Thailand. What's the minimum relationship balance for CitiGold these days to gain that perk, still $500,000 U.S.???
Pib Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 I know we are talking Citibank Thailand, but they must comply with Bank of Thailand regulations, which includes outflow of funds via any means such as ibanking, as all other banks operating in Thailand since all banks are licensed by BoT. See below Bangkok Bank webpage talking what is required for a Thai National or Foreigner to be able to transfer funds internationally via ibanking and amounts allowed. Generally for a foreigner it's salary repatriation which means they are working in Thailand and have a work permit. Now this does not mean a person can't get approval for one time sending out of funds to pay certain bills, funds to family/friends, etc. Although this info is from the Bangkok Bank webpage, other banks have basically the same requirements because its BoT requirements. http://www.bangkokbank.com/OnlineBanking/PersonalBanking/iBanking/BualuangiBanking/Services/Pages/IFTiBanking.aspx
