Fewer Posts on ThaiVisa These Days?

I get the impression that there are fewer posts on Thai Visa these days than say a year or two ago.  I could be totally wrong about this but I find myself spending less time on the forum as there just doesn't seem to be the same number of posts as there once was.  Sure, the number of threads and posts is still huge compared to other Thailand forums but is Thai Visa as busy in terms of the number of posts nowadays as it was in the past?

 

I've given it a bit of thought and perhaps the reason I feel like this is simply that topics about the same old issues appear regularly - and I am less likely to read about an issue the second or third time it is discussed.....so that might be a simple explanation.

 

This is in no way a complaint or criticism or anything like that.  I wonder if others feel the same.  Is there a metric which comparing the number of posts on Thai Visa daily now compared with say a year or two ago?  Curious.

Not only fewer posts but fewer threads. The number of active threads has reduced considerably compared to four or five years ago.

In spite of what Thai economics (when sales fall, put up prices) might suggest, more ads = fewer readers and posters.

 

The adblocker-blocker was a particularly stupid idea as it just means that people are encouraged to not post at all, as in order to post you first have to turn on JS, which then gives you that timer overlay.

It might be a new TVF reverse psychology strategy.  Seems to be working, this thread case in point.   ?

It's a long time since I've looked at the forum. Yes posts seem to be down, but the quality seems to be up, with a lot less of the right wing hysteria and anti Thai bigotry that infested the forum in the past.

I think your right on that--- have a friend who cant sign in until he admits he has done something wrong..... he had one of the highest % of (agree) reputation post I have seen on here.....he still logs on occasion, to check the TV page..... but he isn't allowed to post.......& that mod has long gone.....madness.

Mind you .now i dont know how true this is but i have heard that some people who are banned sign in with another name and e mail address. Lots of times[emoji1]

I had been thinking of posting a topic along the same lines myself.

A few years ago there was a jolly band of trolls that were just waiting for the next opportunity to unleash a smear, sneer or insult. They seem to have gone now, most of them. (Remember Bendix, anyone?)

However in my own case I must admit that I only look in once a day now instead of having a tab open all day.

Difficult to put this down to any one factor, maybe the profile of expats in general has changed.

I don’t know how many of the regulars can’t access “timeline” but in my case it is really an exception. I am using Iphone and I guess I can’t be the only one with connection problems..

A few less threads at the tabloid end of the spectrum would be a step in the right direction. Reposting "A bargirl stole my kidney" stories , direct from a UK tabloid, just undermines the reputation and credibility of the forum. It just serves to create an "us and them" scenario, feeds the Thai bashers and puts into question any legitimate information/discussion on the site.

There is a small but unhealthy, racist aspect to the forum, prone to misinformation, exaggeration,  that sometimes needs to be kept in check, not encouraged. 

I have a friend in Australia who has stopped reading or posting in the forum because quote "I dont want to read how bad Thailand is any more", " I dont want to move to Thailand any more, I had no idea how bad Thailand and Thai people are, until I read the forum."

My 2p...

Specialist threads (Health, Technology, Visas, Photography etc) remain largely unscathed and informative, whereas 'local' threads attract trolls and 'ne'er do wells' inc a sizable number who failed in love or business at said places before disappearing with their tail between their legs and hold the place responsible for whatever fate befell them instead of looking in the nearest mirror. Thaivisa could minimize this behaviour by not unnecessarily baiting 'local' links on the homepage drawing trolls in & causing regular posters/valuable contributors living in those areas to tire of forever putting the fires out. The number of regular posters on my local thread has dwindled to single digits as a direct result.....

 

On a slightly different subject on three separate threads today I have noted seemingly provocative input from 'newbies' yet on closer inspection their profiles reveal they signed up more than a decade ago with only 5/>100 posts to their name. I worked out some years ago what this actually means and so did the likes of drummond.

And here I was thinking that a lot of past (but now disappeared) TVF forum posters had probably been rounded up and shipping off by Big Joke and his endless weekly "X-Ray" let's arrest the overstaying foreigner raids...

Correct, there are groups on FB with 75,000 members. People want real time answers/replies to their questions/post on their mobile devices.

Moderation can be discussed, but not in public.

 

Individual actions taken by a moderator can be discussed by PM with the moderator in question or with an Admin. You can also contact Support, who is a real human being who deals with any issues that are reported to them.

 

If you want to discuss the policy surrounding moderation then you need to contact support. Moderators do not make forum rules or forum policy and we cannot change either.
