Hi everyone, can anyone please recommend a very good surgeon in Bkk for surgery on grade 3 or 4 hemorrhoids? Can ask the hospitals in town, but it's really the doctor that matters, so if anyone, who knows or has experience with this, could help I'd be very grateful. Many thanks.

Sheryl, I just saw he goes to Bumrungrad once a week. I would guess he would need to do a colonoscopy first to fully diagnose, and then the surgery after that. Would he be able to come in during the rest of the week for this? I would assume so but just checking. Thanks

Sheryl,

Dr. Chucheep's hours at Christian are Monday's 1pm - best to go early to get in line since it's first come, first served.  I recently saw him there (2 weeks ago), unless his day changed.

Saw Dr Chucheep at Bumrungrad. Initial diagnosis by another doctor, hemorrhoids, was wrong. He performed a sphincterotomy surgery for chronic anal fissures. Excellent job done. Quality of life returned! And what a polite humble gentleman. Thanks for the recommendation Sheryl. Hope this helps anybody else who has that condition.

Thank you for the surgeon recommendation.

Could anyone with experience in the pricing at Bumrungrad and at Bangkok Christian let me know the procedure and price paid (or quoted) for hemorrhoidectomy.

Recently had a similar procedure with Dr. Chucheep at Christian, surgery and one night stay was about 65K. I can't give high enough praise to Dr. Chucheep, he is one of the nicest and best doctors I've ever dealt with - not just in Thailand but in the US as well. He also performed a complex fistula surgery on me as well.

My bum is as good as new!! No complications whatsoever for a surgery that could cause big long term issues.

Aetna (nee Bupa) covered the expenses for all these surgeries (around 170K) except for 60 baht!! They were great to deal with and just got my annual renewal and the price increase is maybe 3,000 baht for the year.

Paying out of pocket, do you think the price would have been different? I'm trying to create an estimate for myself of how much I would need before pulling the trigger on traveling.

No idea, maybe Sheryl has some insight on that.

Dr. Chucheep also works out of Chula Hospital which I understand is much cheaper than Christian but it's longer waits and English speaking staff is less than that of Christian and Bumrungrad. I have nothing but good things to say about my experiences at Christian.

That's good to know, I will look into Chula also. Besides the cost, I'm guessing that the methods of hemorrhoidectomies might vary between hospitals.

The method should not vary based on the hospital, as long as the doctor is the same. All these hospitals are well equipped with modern gear. Now if you were upcountry that might be a different story.

I would expect hemmoroidectomy to cost less than the fistula repair he had.

Suggest you email or call the hospital for an estimate.

Note that estimates are usually on the high side.

The hemorrhoid procedure was 65K and the fistula repair (LIFT) was over 100K, sorry if there was confusion.

Thanks for the prices phkauf. Did you happen to remember what they accepted as payment, cash only or credit card ok?

Sheryl, I contacted both a few days ago.

Bangkok Christian Hospital could not give an online quotes.

Bumrungrad International no reply yet.

Honestly though, assuming that 65k is on the low end, it pretty much answers how economical it would be. I considered King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, but the additional work to see a doctor (without the language) might be too challenging for me.

There would also be a long wait list just to see the doctor and then again for surgery (at Chulas or any other govt hosputal). Just recently I tried to book someone with a specialist at Chula, 2 month wait. And one has to go in person to find that out. No online booking and imposdible to get them on the phone.

All private hospitals in Thailand accept credit cards. So do at least the larger govt hospitals.

Insurance paid for me, but they have taken cash and credit cards for my previous visits for other things.

After the initial consultation with Dr. Chucheep (Monday's only) he can probably book a surgery for you pretty quickly, either later that week or the next. Based on my previous experience with him. Best advice is to go to Christian early Monday, around 9:30 to 10am, and get an low number to see him, then go to lunch or walk around Silom. He starts seeing patients at 1pm, but if you get a high number the wait could be a few hours.

I really appreciate both of your information and advice!
