Elon, you just lost 10 years of credibility in one emotional Tweet, because your ego was dented because your mini submarine was bunk. This will haunt you forever.

i don't think so. worst case scenario is he comes up with PEDO proof. that guy is capable of a lot of GOOD and BAD things ?

On a serious note, Vern will not win this spat. The unfortunate truth, that many of us farang delude ourselves into rebutting, is that people (especially foreigners) affiliated with Thailand are given a poor reputation globally. Everyone is suspicious of farangs who end up here. And, without judging Vern, his interview (assuming it's not editorialized) lacked tact and potentially sheds some light on his character and education level. Who would tell Elon Musk to "shove it up his #$$"?

Many of us won't accept that Thailand is not well-regarded by outsiders (for mostly good reasons). I avoid telling anyone that I have been based here as not doing so would open me up to unnecessary attacks.

true.  been reading about this on other forums.

half consider musk a fraud and conman and agree wth vern's response.

the other half agree with the pedo name-calling, questioning (and answering in the same comment) why any single male would be in thailand, that vern looks like a pedo, and that 'everyone' knows why british men have to leave their home country.

The article posted here is not telling the whole story as so often happens. Apparently after Elon Musk had offered his services regarding the submarine, Vern Unsworth, the British diver said to CNN that Musk, “can stick his submarine where it hurts.” This totally uncalled for and ridiculous response is what started the war of words. What Vern should have said is something like thanks for the offer but its not practical in this case.

Bear in mind that Musk had already criticized the governor because his dildo had been rebuffed, and whilst the comment from Vern may have been less than diplomatic, who knows what else had been going on with Musk in the interim?

What would the hero divers have done if one of the kids was incapacitated? Elon's plan was viable and his presence was potentially life saving. The divers (some) were unnecessarily antagonistic from early on in the piece, so now it's come to this.

No it wasn't viable, we have both this British caving expert who knows the layout of the cave well and briefed the two Brit divers who found the kids first, and the Thai governor overseeing the whole operation, saying his submarine wouldn't work. So the antagonism is totally justified, and his presence potentially life threatening, Musk diverted resources and attention to him, and entered the cave (quickly being told to leave).

They did give the kids sedatives, they were basically incapacitated anyway, they couldn't swim. Two divers to one boy, oxygen shoved down their throat, and drag them out.

wasn't it elon who twatted first about how the rescue chief was incompetent?

how will this effect elon's plans to invest in thailand?  now that he has publicly defamed a national hero?  if he returns to the kingdom, can he be charged with defamation?

In this instance though, Musk is what we call in the oil patch a sh!t hawk. When a supervisor bereft of relevant field knowledge comes in to 'supervise' or 'assist' with a difficult start up or project, they fly in, sh!t all over everything and fly out.

Some graduate to being walking eagles... so full of sh!t, they can no longer fly.

Well called Vern Unsworth.

Exactly, it's obvious from most comments that many people have never manged a large, international, rapid pace issue like this. In such a crisis, multiple options are procured and developed concurrently so as not to be caught out. It's called risk management.

At a rapid pace the British and Thai experts on the scene established that Musk's option wasn't viable, and to manage risk Musk was quickly removed from the scene.

I saw the interview on television of the diver, dumping/attacking on the "submarine" offer/donation/proposal .  It was nasty.  I was surprised how ignorant and abrasive the diver was and how anti Musk for attempting to contribute to a solution.

I was laughing, wondering if it was a crusty old Thai Visa member commenting live on television...

If this smart-ass Musk so confident about his shitty "submarine", why he didn't prove it's safety by putting his own child inside for 4-5 hours and immerse into  the water (8-10 feet depth)? Or he thinks that Thai children is something like laboratory rabbits for testing his toys?
This so called "genius engineer" doesn't even understand basic diving physiology and safety measures.

The most obvious example: if something wrong happens with regulator (for non-divers: regulator is a 2 stage and quite complicate device allowing people breathe underwater from the tank with compressed air), it is possible to switch to spare one. But if air-supply equipment of this student-made "submarine" fails, what they will do? Listen freaking on-board mp3-player?
Disgusting guy...
Hope Vern Unsworth didn't take him seriously.

It was Vern Unsworth who unfairly first attacked Elon Musk, for not caring about the children, but only trying to promote his business.  But I would have expected Musk to be smarter, than to fight back by calling Vern Unsworth a Pedo.

Prior to that Musk attacked the Thai governor overseeing the rescue as not being a subject matter expert, from that, a cursory reading into Musk's controversial background, and meeting Musk at the cave, his opinion on Musk may well have been fair. Could possibly save Musk from taking an unviable submarine to a future cave rescue and endangering lives. A submarine in a cave is ridiculous, as Unsworth explained.

Wrong. Elon consulted the cave experts from the very beginning on the design. In fact Stanton who found the kids appears to have played the leading role in encouraging Elon to develop the sub and gave him crucial specifications on exactly what would be required for this rescue. Elon also sent engineers to thailand to help understand the factors that could only be understood by being there. When Elon runs his sub to cave 5 as he has now promised to do a lot Elon bashers like you are going to be eating more and more crow.

It still doesn't take away the fact that it was an operationally unproven prototype which had I would imagine have less than 10 hours running in a swimming pool.

That very fact alone would, and likely did, raise an enormous cause for concern. I still can't take away from Musk that he had this built and deployed in the timeframe he did. But having to resort to childish tweeting when it wasn't used? Not so much a fan.

What I would like to know, which I haven't seen documented apart from his cave tour, is what happened during his visit. Who did he talk to, who did he upset? Did he and Vern have words? IMO, something must have happened for this war of words to start.

Outrageous!!!

Because he did not make a quick buck out of the plight of others, he acts like a turd, which he obviously is, by defaming others.

I was thinking his sub looked more like a Turd
