In few more years even his enemies will be driving a Tesla Solar Powered Car...

Not likely to happen...

Tesla is constantly on the verge of bankruptcy, needing new funding every quarter, and will not survive the next market downturn.

As for Musk himself, he is constantly on the verge of being fired by the board of directors, something that may happen sooner than later...

... And Musk owns 21.9 per cent of Tesla voting shares.

I would guess Musk taking aim at Narongsak Osatanakorn's statement, that his so called "mini-sub" did not fit with the mission, had something to do with Vern's rather harsh comments about the the whole thing being nothing but a PR stunt as well as his suggestion on where he should store it.

Musk also does not seem to be too great in comprehending what Vern actually said. He implied that the Musk's pod would not have made it 50 meters from the start of the dive, which is from where the boys where located and not the bit were you can swim above water either. Saying that he can make a new pod which could make it to cave 5 (a map indicating what he means with cave 5 would be great) and that you could have done a surface swim there, actually proves that Vern had a point.

Vern

If you set up a "go fund me page"

I'm in, and mad.

Hopefully he can sue Musk in the US, not in Thailand and I am sure that there would be a lot of lawyers willing to take his case for a percentage of the amount awarded to Mr Unsworth for damages.

Wish you good luck with suing Elon Musk.
I don't think that Thailand want to get involved with your law suit.
Ask yourself the question :

"What has Musk and his Multi-million Company(s) to offer to any country and what has an expat like you to offer to any country?"
If you can not answer that question, forget a law suit and swallow your "faux" pride.
If you can answer that question, forget a law suit and swallow your "faux" pride.

No country will be accepting a law suit by a Thailand expat against Elon Musk.
And if a country would accept, Elon Musk would make that day one of your worst nightmares with his money.

Don't forget, it was YOU who started that mud slinging contest with depicting Musk help as silly and a "Public stunt".

I realize 'fraud'; was not the exact word. But whether publicity stunt or not, reference to Mr. Musk's anal cavity on CNN would not be in The Brit's favor. And if he should actually start civil action against Musk, you could bet there would be investigators to turn the Brit's private life inside out.

So maybe the Brit should first offer an apology to Mr. Musk for his rant on CNN which precipitated this whole unfortunate occurrence.

I have to agree with you on this. Vern Unsworth should not have said "he can stick the submarine where it hurts" and started this unfortunate war of words, it was uncalled for. Likewise Elon Musk should not have tweeted, "Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it" . It is quite clear that Elon Musk regrets sending the 'tweet' as he took it down shortly after sending it. The fact is Elon Musk is a very rich man, worth around 20 Billion USD, I am assuming Vern Unsworth is not worth that. If Vern did sue Elon it would be in the USA and I am pretty sure there would be some lawyers there that would take up this case on a contingency basis. However would it be worth it for Vern? Everyone has some skeletons in the cupboard and unless Vern is squeaky clean he might have problems to begin with as Elon's lawyers would most certainly start looking into Vern's past life. Its all the aggravation that Vern would have to deal with.

I so agree , imagine with your name known by millions and now possibly folk thinking ' No smoke without fire '.   I would only call someone a pedo if the law courts deemed him so.

Sue the bastard Vern.

Totally agree with you, Toofarnorth.

I can't imagine how horrendous and infuriating it would be if someone as famous as Musk had called me a paedophile on social media (reaching MILLIONS of people). This is not just some bloke in a pub calling you a name: this is WORLD-WIDE defamation of character.

At least in the USA, Mr. Unsworth might sue or not sue. But given that his comments on Mr. Musk were shown (repeatedly?) to millions of persons around the world on CNN, anyone who thinks this would be a slam-dunk case for the Brit diver is being legally naive.

Musk could easily win this case since Vern started the rant. Everyone tried to offer help in this severe situation so to blame Elon for his mini-sub and call it a PR-stunt isn't something that has valid points. In the beginning, it was the thai authorities that pleaded for international help and they got it, including Vern Unsworth.

I'm not siding with Elon, but Vern went too far with his remarks on CNN.

I agree. The reaction from Elon Musk was however unproportional. Both remarks were hurting. I read a lot about Elon Musk and I have high regards for his inventions. To call his way of aid a PR stunt is at least as much hurting as what Elon Musk wrote. So they are even now, because both statements are untrue!

Don't want to bang on about this too much , but I know Vern and have chatted to him in the past about caves up here and his MG with a bashed door .  My sense of humour is the sort that could say 'Hi Vern , on yer own , no kids sitting on your lap I see '     This is the sort of thing he will now have to put up with all because 'pedo ' was sent to him , think if it was you and you would get so paranoid.........................too horrible.

Musk sounds like a man with major self esteem issues, just like Captain Chaos in the very white house. Anyone with such thin skin, that they have to respond to every perceived insult and slight, has serious mental issues. Many of us know that Trump is clinically insane. Perhaps Musk is too? Anyone who attacks a hero, because they said his submarine was an impractical idea, which it most certainly was, is a buffoon, and a fool. Musk is both.

Ironic that Trumps tweet about the cave was totally appropriate and in good taste, but the lifeless Leftists came out and bashed him anyways, while defending Obama's friend Musk.

Musk was bullied as a child.  Thrown down the stairs and beaten unconscious.  Kind of on the short side, too.  He definitely has issues, but as stated, had he made that comment as the CEO of XOM or Pfizer; he would have been escorted to the exit.  But solar is all fuzzy wuzzy and oddly he is allowed to get away with murder.

Very sad that this story that was so full of joy has degenerated like this. Musk should apologise immediately and hope Mr. Unsworth will let the matter lie. I wonder if he has any idea how nasty the Thai defamation laws are?

why is jurisdiction for such a defamation action in thailand?

Yes, that's why we all should sue him.  It will give people the wrong ideas why I choose to live here.

I wonder what the cave kids think about all this ?  Their hero are being accused of being a kiddie fiddler.

Actually, Vern Unsworth was among the firsts on site and HE convinced the Thai authorities to call for international help, not the other way round.

Yet nobody called for Musk and Tesla, who have nothing to do with the rescue business.

To top it all, Musk showed up on the last day of the rescue, when 8 boys were already out...obviously the rescuers were not going to change their successful modus operandi to please Mr Musk!

Having said that, I think that Mr Unsworth should let go, if only because Mr Musk has much deeper pockets than him and could unleash an army of nasty lawyers to make his life miserable...

A westerner has got little chance in any court case against a Thai. I know from experience.

I actually won a court case against a Thai not long after I came to Thailand to stay.

About three weeks after the case, I got an email from my lawyer say that the Judge had now changed her mind

and did not believe what I said.

Since Tesla Motors has a market value of around USD 50 billion, about the same as GM and Ford with about 1% of their sales, at least for now, I would say he pretty well already has public support.
