Police in Chaiyaphum have arrested a former monk wanted after an 18 year old girl died.

The monk allegedly fed the girl a magic potion to rid her of ills. The girl's mother was convinced it was the answer to her daughter's ailments.

But the girl vomited and promptly died.

That was back in April. The monk disappeared but emerged yesterday and was arrested on a warrant.

Opas Srisanga, 43, said he voluntarily left the monkhood following the incident and went down south to work on a fishing trawler operating out of Krabi.

But when the monsoon hit he decided to come home to Chaiyaphum.

He denied that he had done anything wrong and came up with a long list of excuses.

He said the potion was really only made up of candle wax and plain water. He never forced the girl or anyone else to drink it.

He never even charged anything for the service - though he accepted money if they were kind enough to give it.

People with certain medical complaints were always warned in advance.

Besides, he said, people were not meant to take the whole potion all at once, but over a period of time.

Police listened to the excuses then detained him on a charge of negligent homicide.

Others who were involved gave themselves up following the death of the girl.

The poor girls mother is an idiot, why do Thais believe all the sh++e spread by monks t be the truth?

Many times we see monks giving so-called magic cures to people who then die.

People give these QUACKS serious money to cure family members then nothing or death.

Not only Thai believe that nonces, Look at the western world. despite prolonging the average age twofold. people still think that charlatans help.

Wasn't there some sort of problems regarding sexual abuse by some priests in the Western world?  Okay, that's not poisoning, but it's still a heinous crime.

Pleased that Police declined to accept excuses and arrested the culprit. Thanks to the Typhoon, "Monk" did not slip away to sea. never to be seen again.

In a way he is right.

The police in their fine investigation work have not shown what was in the water that would cause a death?

The forensic police in their fine investigation work have not shown a toxology report.

There was no complete autopsy by doctor G.

She could have died of a burst appendix for all they know.

Or, her parents might well have fed her something more sinister later in the day.

Or, she could have eaten something by herself later in the day.

Candle wax and water isn't going to kill you.

The truth will never be known in this case as the parents cremated her body before any investigation.
