PHUKET: According to a report issued on the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT) website yesterday, one of Phuket’s vice governors has stated that Phuket’s tourism, particularly involving Chinese tourists, has recovered with extra safety measures

The NNT report, issued at 4:30pm yesterday (July 24), stated that V/Gov Prakob Wongmaneerung said the tourism situation in Phuket has recovered to normal, following a boat accident earlier this month, with the number of tourists increased by seven percent as of Monday (July 23), compared to last year.

Probably all are terminally ill looking for assisted suicide and their relatives will make a lot of money.

….and how are those ever alert lifeguards doing? Still sitting on the beach watching people be saved?

“The southern province has called upon all tour operators to implement maximum safety measures, and is in the process of installing more CCTV cameras to ensure the tourists' safety,” the report quotes V/Gov Prakob as saying.

Normal for here.

So ... week ago the advance booking suffered 10 - 15 % cancellations. Now all Ok. Who do  these officials think they are kidding ?  Oh ... just keep the uninformed Thai population happy.

Looking at the number of Chinese going on trips at the moment they seem to be back in full force.

All paid for long before the tour boat deaths. Lets see how the advance bookings fare.

For a while they were not there, now they seem to be back on the tours again. For the moment I don't see any impact, unfortunately.

Just the other day Thai hoteliers where asking for the wavering of visa fees

to increase tourist numbers after the slump in Chinese tourists in the wake

of a large loss of life, things turn around so quick in Teflon Thailand.

Don't worry about the bloody CCTV cameras worry about teaching these Thais simple safety procedures like checking all equipment before leaving port and making sure everybody is adequately licenced for the job they are doing, not like policeman I see yesterday driving on Soi Bukhaow left hand brake light not working obviously didn't do his prestart check, too much of a hurry to collect the brown envelopes
