In a rising market ETF's seem a brilliant investment due to great market breadth of advances. In a falling market they can be disastarous as they are required not only to buy/mimic the best stocks in an index/sector but also the worst. Bear in mind that 6 stocks have accounted for 100% of S&P 500 gains so far this year. 10 stocks have accounted for 122% of gains this year. Why would you want to own the other 490 stocks in the index under those conditions?

remember FB dropped 20% in one day?

You can certainly choose to stay away from indexed funds if low cost and diversification is not for you. There are many investment strategies.

It all depends on what broker you choose.  Make sure they offer what you are looking for.  Some do, some don't.

So a Thai broker, say KimEng, would be able to offer access to the big brands ETFs (is it Blackrock?) etc; and how would they be bought in THB or do currency conversions have to be made?
