In their zil to 'clean up' the beach they throw the baby out with the bath water, overdone rules and regulations, too many restrictions of what people can do and can't do... loosen up the rigid attitude, let people feel comfortable on the beach, allow controlled and licanced beach chairs and merchandise vendors ply the beach,

let them feel that they are having a holiday and not in a place where there are more don't than do's....

When you say  "too many restrictions of what people can do and can't do"   are you referring  solely to vendors or  are there restrictions on beach goers as well?

a huge thumps up from tourists

The thumping sound must've been deafening.

It's obviously a misprint. It should have said "trumps" - a reference to a group of troublesome senior citizens illegally playing bridge.

Re replacing the sand and reclaiming the beach, have the learn-ed Generals never heard of longshore drift which can be controlled by the use of Groynes? I remember as a kid going to beaches in the South West of England where these had been deployed successfully for years, but of course a permanent solution would not fill the back pocket!

Well that has never been a problem before, has it? We have all seen many, many stories here that blatantly flew in the face of the evidence. This report has it right though. Until something is done about the nasty brown bits in the water, no one in their right mind is going to go swimming there, new clean sand or not. I think we can safely say that was 400 Million Baht utterly wasted. Wonder what the next stupid idea will be?

Completing it as there's still about a mile down to Walking St to go .. In fairness to 'em something did have to be done as it was getting seriously eroded up that end but it is in vain if they don't do something about the water pollution .. And if they wanna now keep it pristine a word needs to be had with some of the tourists who use the boats to and from Koh Larn as the junk they disregard as they troop back up the beach is out of order particularly the bags that contain those cheesy plastic plate souvenir things ..

Ministry of Tracking Bracelets on another roll. Note in the photo, something the news report missed, all of the big comfy pillows stacked up along the shoreline. Good idea in case tourists stumble into and trip on oh say a submerged discarded pylon or get mortally gouged stepping on a broken bottle when emerging from a swim. "We wouldn't want you to get hurt while you're Pattaya! Hehe!" "Nooo! Have big pillow now! You get hurt?!  You just lie down! Good for you ! Only have in Pattaya!"
