Judges, even magistrates have the power to sentence people for contempt of court without a trial, normally these are for incidents which happen inside the court room and may lead someone who is "disobedient to or discourteous toward a court of law and its officers" being sent down to the cells to cool off for a few hours.

 

Unfortunately this law fails to distinguish between the categories I.e.  Being rude and disrespectful in the court, failing to comply with a court order, and doing things that could prejudice a trial.

 

Maybe for more serious offences there should be a proper trial, hopefully after this the law will be looked at and revised.

 

As for TR he is a right wing thug who uses the cloak of journalism to put over his distorted political views.

For putting his neck out there and not being scared to say the truth amongst other things. How is he supposed to influence laws of anykind as soon as he says anything or try to do anything he is muzzled or put in jail. Why? Because the truth bothers.
