Can anyone advise on government hospitals in Bangkok who you would recommend for hip replacement surgery and what the approximate cost would be. I know the private hospitals charge 400-600 thousand but wondering if that is worth it, and whether or not a government hospital would do just as good a job. Thanks

The top tier government hospitals will do this just fine. Suggest one of these: Chuklalongkorn, Siriraj, Police Hospital, Lerdsin and Vajira Hospitals  Some specific doctor suggestions:

Chula: Prof. SRIHATACH GEORGE NGARMUKOS

             Prof. PONGSAK YUKTANANDANA

Siriraj: Prof. PACHARAPOL UDOMKIAT

Vajira: Prof. SATIT THIENGWITTAYAPORN

Police Hospital: Prof. VIROJ LARBPAIBOONPONG

try to see one of these via after hours clinic.

There may well be a long wait list and there will be long waits and red tape at each visit. But savings will be significant.

Problem weil be rehab (physical therapy) after operation.  You cannot do this on your own.  And it is next to impossible to find in Thailand.

I had my hip replaced at the army hospital, Fort Prajak in Udon. It cost 130,000 baht.

I really doubt that going to a private hospital would actually be any better, but of course it does depend on the Surgeon.

I consulted with 3 OS before deciding to have mine done; BKK hospital quoted me 300,000.

The cost was not an issue.

There are many good physiotherapists here - & a few not so good.

You need to evaluate the pros & cons of cemented Vs incemented implants.

There's a very good user website called: bonesmart.com which will give you alot of uncomplicated & useful advice.

I hope I am not pushing this thread in a different direction, but I would like to bring something up.  Does anyone have experience with platelet rich plasma PRP injection treatment in Thailand or Udon Thani or Khoen Kaen?

I have hip osteoarthritis and not yet ready for replacement unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks
